Hello Everyone,

I'm Chris. I am in the army. Currently reside on Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. I have a stock 07 Trailblazer LS, I am looking for insight on upgrading the drivetrain from part-time 4WD to full-time 4WD. I now the gear ratio makes the tires skip when turning in 4WD. If any one can give me some insight on changing it from part-time 4WD to full-time 4WD. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

When you say full-time 4WD, do you mean that you want AWD?

If you just want full-time 4WD, then just throw the switch in 4WD and be done with it - just don't drive it on pavement. That is why ALL 4WD vehicles have a mode where the center diff unlocks, because the tires will stick-slip on pavement when in 4WD mode.

The way an AWD vehicle gets around it is by having a non-locking center diff. This can be done with a conventional geared diff configuration or a viscus clutch that constantly slips.

What is at the root of this request? Why would you want this?

I have only really been off-road in HMMMVV in the army and with a ATV. Don't know much about going off-road in TB. Just looking for some advice on upgrades so I can. It's a learning process for me right now.

Don't worry about the 4WD system then. It's fine as long as its working and serviced well. Do your required maintenance on the 4WD system including diff fluid changes, transfer case fluid changes, and regreasing of the front disconnect, and you'll be fine. The best real upgrade regarding the drivetrain is getting lower gears and putting the AWD sleeve (doesn't turn the truck into an AWD truck) in the disconnect.

AWD systems do not perform as well off road. I agree with.everything Trail X said. I would encourage reviewing the build threads for ideas. I planned, saved, bought, built. You can make a pretty good plan by reading build threads.
