Alright, so I get my license in 2 months and am gonna be driving a Green 2003 trailblazer with the 4.2L I6. I need to know cheap but effective ways to make this look a little more like an off road machine. I found a 3 inch lift kit on theliftmeister.com but I want feedback about the quality of some of your guys lift kits as well as tire choices and what Would look good with the green body. I've got my performance parts already, I would just love some help with opinions on a lift kit, looks, tires, grill guards, etc. thanks a lot guys!

First of all, rarely do these two words ever belong together.

Cesario17 wrote:look a little more like an off road machine.

The colloquial term used around here is LMFAO (Lift Meant For Appearances Only). Furthermore, this is not our goal here. Everything we use has a purpose and a reason behind it-- nothing is there "to look cool". I understand why you would want to, but you've come to the Christian neighborhood bearing the Jehovah's witness book. Meaning you're not going to find much help from members here if this is your only goal.

Cesario17 wrote:I found a 3 inch lift kit on theliftmeister.com

Good to see you've put in at least a little bit of effort, or at least know how to use Google. You're a step above already.

Cesario17 wrote:I want feedback about the quality of some of your guys lift kits as well as tire choices

Annnd you should have stopped while you were ahead. Offroadtb is a self-service website; do some more research here. We have an entire forum dedicated to those very questions, and more. We cannot and will not spoon feed them to you.

Cesario17 wrote:.. and what [w]ould look good with the green body.

Refer to point #2. And look into build threads, plenty have been modified with green bodies. Looks are subjective.

Cesario17 wrote:I've got my performance parts already

Such as?

Cesario17 wrote:I would just love some help with opinions on a lift kit, looks, tires, grill guards, etc. thanks a lot guys!

To sum it up, we're willing to help if you're willing to research yourself. Most of the questions you've asked have been answered in our forum already. Spend some time poking around and figuring out what suits your style. If you're going for appearance only, I'm afraid you won't find much help here-- the locals do not take to LMFAOs very kindly. If you haven't, take a few minutes and read this.

Oh, and welcome to ORTB. Where are you located?

Green TB looks good with NITTO Mud Grapplers, Might need to up your budget a little...

Frankenstein is no mallrat!

Marks lift will do fine, if all you want is the offroad look then stop now and take our advice, it won't look cool, Save your money, real offroaders will laugh at you and give you shit. It's what will happen, Trailblazers are already considered soccer mom, grocery getters.

Performance mods are mostly gimmicks(Tornado, throttle body spacer, etc.), our trucks already have enough power, getting a PCM tune isn't bad, but I have yet to see a tuned truck do something a non PCM tune truck can't do just as easy. Better mpg is the best possible outcome from a tune.

If you chose to proceed remember two things, 1- this is a very expensive hobby, 2- If it doesn't help get you home or make the trip more enjoyable it wasn't worth the money, squirrels and bears don't care how cool chrome looks.

Hope this helps and welcome to the site!

Welcome!
If you are looking of the "cool factor" you might be better over at GMTNATION. I have be researching/ learning since march on what I want to do with my TB. Like Island runner said this is expensive hobby just to do a basic lift at make it look right figure about $2k - to about $2500 to start if not more. You have to understand there is a lot of factors that goes into lifting your trailblazer. Read in the suspension/wheel sticklies you will learn a lot. Beside you don't want to be at the tire shop and can't drive your new to you TB home because the wheel's are hitting the inside fender. ;)

Start with setting aside $1,400 for rims, $1,400 for tires, whatever MarkMC's spacers and 3in body lift kit are running, cost for custom armor from Barton, front and rear bumpers as well, a winch, roof basket, lights, and CB system. So, what's that about....$6k? Yeah, that sounds about right.

Cause making a mall crawler "look a little more like an off road machine" is like putting on a bowtie with t-shirt and jeans for the senior formal. People will not take you seriously. If you're going to look it, then LOOK IT.

Cesario17 wrote: I found a 3 inch lift kit on theliftmeister.com but I want feedback about the quality of some of your guys lift kits

It's a good kit, and if you'll be mall crawling it, you're set. Otherwise, just upgrade and go with Radflos and save yourself a headache. Money is no option after all with this rig modification.

Cesario17 wrote: as well as tire choices and what Would look good with the green body.

Cause tire design is really irrelevant when it comes to body color. If you want a totally aggressive looking tire, pony up for Nitto Trail Grapplers, the bigger the better.

Cesario17 wrote:I've got my performance parts already

 See GMTNation.com for more on that stuff....

Are you asking us to help you formulate your opinions? I'd recommend looking through all our build threads that we worked really hard on and making your own opinions.

And has been stated before many, many times as a word of caution, if you think we're being hard on you here, we are merely preparing you to deal with outfitted Mall Crawler Jeeps and hardcore Jeepers who will give you a really hard time. Judging seems to be a national pastime with them.

What a waste...$400 buys perfectly functional wheels for any size tire on this platform. An extra grand for looks is ignorant.

Since he was going for performance parts, might as well go the full monte. Rockstars seems to be a heavy favorite among the mall crawlers, and they aren't cheap. Neither are the XDs.

He has performance parts....he just going cheap for off road look. He needs to just paint or plastidip his stock wheels cause that makes a vehicle "off road" or ghetto.

Its a looks only mod...but unfortunately most think it makes their truck more offroad. Does as much as glue on chrome fender vents and looks as cheap too.

I started out clueless with no local mentor. No help. I thought I was smarter than that and could Google for all I needed. I trusted the local offroad shop, told them what I wanted to do, and they STILL sold me running boards when I asked for them as my first mod because they wanted to make a buck off my noobishness. And I thought running boards were mandatory instead of forbidden.

I was wrong. I've paid my dues and have already given back to the noobs by five generations of builds with every new lift kit that comes out, and posting about them.

Some noobs who don't read and search first, need to be razzed because functional offroading is about going with friends and making new ones, but it's also about self-reliance, preparation for emergency repairs and expenses, and a mature attitude towards trail carnage. Advice on costs, kits, and build-ups has already been posted, and if every noob asked the same questions and missed the archives, the regular members couldn't possibly keep up. Volunteers have only so much time, ya know? And still have time to wheel.

In my experience, many of those under 21 are not truly ready for functional offroading with adequate safety margin. Some are, and you can tell those because they read and search first. They absorb the culture here before their first post because they're respectful, like joining in a neighborhood party by bringing beer or wine that's likely to be enjoyed by the current crowd - for instance not bringing a case of Bud Light to somebody's house who has a Porsche in the driveway. Better a six of something with higher quality for the same price.

That said, please feel free to answer repeated questions, or come up with an FAQ link or links you can reply to the next hundred noobs. I guarantee it gets old, and it's part of the reason Teebes and JD and I set up this site away from the offroad forum at Trailvoy, now GMTNation. But we certainly embrace all sorts of missions here, and anybody who wants to be the welcoming committee for 15 year olds who might inherit a trailblazer from a grandparent, and magically get the budget and parental permission to mod and wheel the truck, be my guest.

Personally, I'd prefer to send them to pirate4x4 for some harsher love. But you all know I'm a hard-ass. This site's mission to not enable all comers to put themselves in harm's way, or help them get chicks, or to "look mean" at the mall. GMTNation has a place for that, and it's a thriving site with many volunteers who also volunteer here.

Sometimes I forget there's a distinct difference between hardcore offroaders and those who take the expedition routes, even more so when you throw in the mall crawlers. I'll be the first to admit that I prefer the expedition route, where self-reliance and preparation are the only thing that will keep you alive when things go wrong, and that biases me towards those who just want to look offroad. I honestly don't understand the point of modding a vehicle solely for looks, but that's just me.

Totally agree how important this is. And the last time I checked, the Porsche owners I know drink Bud Light and Coronas, so take that as you will.
