Hey guys! Spent the past couple of months pouring over this site (and learning lots along the way). I finally decided it was time to become a member. Just finished reading the official welcome, which has cleared up several of the newbie questions I still had. I solemnly swear to do some digging before posting generic/common/simple questions.

Purchased my 04 TB SWB 4x4 about a year ago when looking to replace my 96 GMC Jimmy. Originally was interested in a used Nissan Xterra, but after months of only finding 2wds in my area I went with the TB. I'm approaching 75k miles and will also need new tires sometime this summer. As a result I began thinking of reading up on some of the 100k maintenance procedures and looking into becoming more off road worthy.

Currently I'm all stock. First thing to change will be tires. After looking at the lift/tire size chart I'm currently on the fence between 255/70/16 and 265/70/16. I'd like to go with the larger of the two and would get spacers, but I have the 3.42 rear differential and noticed the recommendation about not going larger than 32" (wasn't sure how quickly things deteriorated as that size was approached or exceeded). Suspension lift will be further in the future as I'm slow to make up my mind on things.

Main goal with the TB is to make sure that it can take my toys (mountain bikes, kayaks, and camping gear) to their destination. Seems to me that I'll be mostly needing more clearance and getting rid of the highway tires.

I think you'll find the 265/75 to be a good safe limit for your gearing and the basic lift suggestion. It's a good finishing place for a lot of people and a good starting place for others. May want to look for a trans cooler too.

Welcome aboard!

I'll start looking for one. Had the tranny go out on my Jimmy around 150k (seemed to be a common occurrence for those trucks), going to make sure I take better care of my TB's.

Paducah.

Did you ever do anything with that Porsche? Hadn't heard anything about it since 2007. I'll let you scratch your head for a bit  and see if you can figure out how you know me.

I'll take you up on that offer sometime. Tried LBL 302 last weekend. Things went fine until the trail split three different ways. I can't wait until I'm sitting a little higher to test it out again, probably wouldn't hurt to have someone to tug me out just in case. Still looking for the elusive north end back country park n' camp location. Currently taking 112 to 120A for camping. Which side did you start your 304 attempt?
