Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Hello from the great white north!

New members: please introduce yourself here.

I've been lurking around this site for a few days looking at all the awesome builds, and felt like a bit of a pervert not introducing myself :excited:

I'm currently driving a bone stock '01 Blazer Zr2, 5 speed manual, 4.3L V6. While exploring options for what to replace it with when the time comes (soon based off my repair to do list), I stumbled across a picture on the internet of a lifted/modded Envoy...(thanks to The Roadie for sucking me in). I'll likely lurk and drool a while longer but hope to become more active in the near future!

So, "hey!", and bye for now!

Welcome to the site. Got a time frame for when you switch trucks?

Thanks. Will be in the next 6 months for sure, and 3 if everything goes as planned. Biggest hold back is finding the right used truck. I'm watching here, and have a friend in the Sarasota area watching there (be nice to have the rust free variety as opposed to the neglected, road-salt peppered versions I see for sale here).

It's a toss up for me whether I bite the bullet and go Tahoe/Yukon or stay "small" a while longer. I have a close friend with an 08 TBSS which I've always admired, but it doesn't fit my lifestyle, and I never really thought the 'regular' TB/Envoy was capable enough for my needs, so it's never really been on the short list until now.

I've already taken into account an immediate BDS lift/wheels/31-32's as part of my calculated purchase price. Truth be told that may be sufficient for me...for a while anyways.

Welcome! Take a look at Mark's 3" suspension lift, seems less people have issues with his. I've had the BDS lift for 3.5yrs without issue but I'm told that's just luck! Knock on wood!

If I were buying another one, I would look for a SWB with the V8. You'll get a better rear end that way and more low end torque. I also expect any difference in gas mileage is negligible.

I agree with Navigator and NC_islandRunner. I have the BDS kit and mine broke within the first 4 months. If I was going to get another I'd look for a SWB (short wheel base, not EXT) V8.

Personally I think the Trailblazer is the best in-between size when you consider the original Blazer like you have and the Tahoe.

To be perfectly honest, I *am* looking for the SWB 8cyl ....Every single used TB I've found so far regardless of price/km/condition prereq's has been the 6. I hadn't seen Mark's 3" lift, until it was mentioned here - but I like what I see now that I've been made aware. Thanks guys!

There are more I6's than SWB v8's, so you'll have to look hard. But they are out there. I see them for sale from time to time.

I recall someone mentioning they made the SWB V8 beginning in 06 but they are hard to find.
I use searchtempest to find odd ball things in my area. It searches all the CL in a certain number of miles of your area.
