Saw your post on the OS and (regrettably) answered there first. You found somehting new, all right. But I discovered ARB is shipping a FRONT locker that should fit us. I started a new thread here for that.

Bill left us 8.0'ers behind a while back anyways. :poke:

Interestingly enough, when I was sourcing parts to fix my G80... I discovered the 8.0 and 8.6 share many common parts carrier-wise. I was too focused on fixing what I have to really investigate though.

There's also an 8.5/8.6 28 spline carrier out there...

I was just copying AlekG, who outsmarted and outspent me by a good factor.

Gee, I don't see the purpose for that one. What vehicle does it go in? (To save some folks a bit of Googling, the 8.0" axles have 28 splines - the 8.6" are stronger 30 splines. Everybody should have this memorized.)

This I do not know... What I DO know is that there's a Detroit Locker, a TrueTrak, an ARB, and all the other usual aftermarket goodies available for it.

I'd run 28 spline axles if it meant I could upgrade my locker on the cheap. Hell, my '95 Camaro is still on it's original 7.625" 28 spline axle rear. That's after a lot of strip passes on warmed up drag radials too.

Hi,
I just bought a Truetrac for my 8.0 rear axle and now trying to figure what diff oil will work best for me. Yes I know that Eaton recommends "A quality petroleum/mineral based oil works best in the Truetrac units. We do not recommend synthetic oil" but looking for example at Mobil Mobilube HD plus 80w90 specs I see that it stops being a liquid at -27C. I found no related info on Russian forums (truetracs are very rare here) so I guess i'm looking for experience of people using Truetracs in northern parts of Canada and Alaska.
Thanks!

$500 seem like an awful lot to spend for a Limited slip rear end that will only perform marginally better then an open diff. a better investment is in the 8.6 and a selectable locker.
just my $.02

I don't know that we have a good knowledge base here for that. I would stop by "Bob Is The Oil Guy" to see if their forums have any related information. They tend to have the most oil related knowledge that I've found.

$680 including carrier bearings, shims and shipping
This car is my daily driver and the idea was to find a replacement for my blown up G80 diff that would work best on slippery bumpy roads covered with snow and solid ice. That is where limited slip Torsen-like diffs seem to perform better than selectable lockers. Unfortunately 8.6 is impossible to find here.

Thanks, I will check it, also emailed Eaton - will see what they reply (if anything:)).

It's not ideal, but you might find a OEM replacement on EBay, but it's hit or miss. I can't imagine you have an abundance of GMT360 parts available. Still awesome to see someone from Russia reppin!

I know this is an older thread but I live in interior Alaska and we routinely see -50 degrees and most people up here run regular gear oil with no problems. Even guys with upgraded diffs just use mobil 1 synthetic gear oil.
