v7guy makes a good point. I paid 665 for new gears and install kit for my jeep and am looking at close to 800 to have a place install them.

Damn. Drop south a bit to Fort Wayne and pay $450 for install on both axles.

Tell me about it! There is one other shop that can do it for cheaper but I've never had any work done by them so...

yeah thats true ill do most of it myself. would you guys think it would be cheaper to just find someone to fabricate a drop kit to drop the differential and remove the whole problem with the binding and control arms?

You'll be gobs ahead just doing a SAS, leaf springs would be the easiest, links would be a fair bit harder, not so much in the front, but in the back cause of the fuel tank. Followed by an IFS of some sort... The Colorado front diff might fit in the stock subframe with a rear sump, with all the other options you're definitely removing the front subframe to have any hope of keeping it somewhat low, and by low I mean a roof height of 7-8 feet.

If I ever do SAS I will probably focus on keeping my roof height as low as reasonably possible. I really like the ability to drive into most house garages.

the height you have to add to get the axle under and enough travel to make it worth it would put you taller that most residential garage doors. could always just cut a bigger hole and add another door section if you have the garage height

Since Erik's TB has a body lift he could move the motor up and use an f body or vette oil pan. He gain 3" or so and still keep it low.

Yeah. I had read that too Caleb. I have considered things like raising the engine, shorter tires, maybe a 4 link system could get me an inch or two. Oil pan changes... I would just have to look at it when I got it all cut a part. Meanwhile, it's just in dream phase. lol As I said in the first place, IF I ever go SAS, I would focus on as low as possible. I have a feeling with my growing family I will live in a different house before I do this anyway.
