G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

for the front, I think you want the Front Axle Assembly (w. Housing).
The Differential Assembly (with Carrier) makes me think more along the lines of just the internals.
Also when you search you see some results for front and others for rear.

Do you remember much about those days? What kinda rpm's did you run at highway and interstate? Mpg? Would you stay at that tire size long enough to wear out a set of tires?

I also say if your already swapping axles, pick up the ss 9.5" rear with 4.10s and swap the front. You wont regret it.

2200-2300 at highway speeds. Maybe 15ish MPG combined? I got better mpg then than I do now. TW's are heavy.

I ran about half way through my 32s before I was on to something bigger.

I may go the 4.10 route then...still want to be able to afford driving out to see roadie some day.

Since we're talking about this... I looked up up all three gearing set-ups on car-part.com. 4.10's are, for sure, the hardest to come by. I can find GU6 and GT4 axles for the EXT relatively close and pretty cheap(180$ avg). why not just get one of these, and pick up the 4.10's from Summit,etc. for about 159$- 200$ on average? 240$ for axle and new R&P set, 420$ for lockRight no-slip locker... Seems to beat 500$ for an axle with 4.10's in it already, and then locker on top of that. Theoretical savings of about 280$. Or is there something here Im missing?

The only problem with that is, if you don't know how to set up gears (and this diff, being aluminum, apprently needs a spreader), you're stuck paying somebody to do that. Prices vary, but I'm not even sure what the going rate for setting up gears is, these days...

This is not really in my wheel-house, but especially aluminum housings apprently need preload on the bearings. Steel housings don't flex as much, so you can USUALLY get the gears/bearings/shim in without spreading the case. There are ~1/2" holes at each side of our differential that take a threaded contraption that spreads the case apart, so that the bearings have preload when you release the spreader, and anything you do with the axle won't ever let the bearings have any play (which would cause the gear mesh to change).

Guy at the dealership, when he was putting new bearings and gears in my rear end under warranty said he normally doesn't have to use the spreader on iron differential housings, but almost always has to use it on these aluminum housings.

Housing speader. We used one on my buddies ARB install in his jeep w dana 44. Guy had made a tool that spreads the housing to slide it all in once shims and everything is figured out. Think reverse c-clamp that pushes in stead of squeezes. I did not need one on the 9.5 when I swapped carriers.

Going rate is about 250 per axle for gear set-up. Many places are more, but I know a couple semi-local places/people that do them on the side for that if you provide parts. They warranty their work too if something fails due to their setup.

they've always worked for me.

Dana axles need spreaders. Ours don't.

I did my rear gears in the driveway with the axle still in the truck.

My first two setuoss of gears were the ones in the TB. I've done half a dozen more since for people and made most of the money I spent on my rear end back.

Like I say, not in my wheelhouse, but the guy did have to use the spreader on mine (I saw it on there). Of course, he's a GM dealer heavy lines mechanic, so not surprising if he hadn't done a Dana axle, and just made the destinction between aluminum and steel housings.

Seeing as you are in NY you should look into Gary's U pull it, its in New York state, forget the town. Google the name, they have dirt cheap prices on parts and you can contact them with needs to see if they have it. If they do, take a day and a box of tools and have a grand ol time!

I checked their website earlier, they didn't have any trailblazers listed. A lot of luminas and a couple 2500hd Silverados.
