I plan on putting my 14 bolt rear on in the next week or so, but I'm having some problem finding the part number for the right u joint adapter for the drive shaft. Only number I've found is "446" from a post but that doesn't seem to match anything. Does anyone have the correct part number or a link?

I guess I'm planning on shortening my drive-shaft as well, unless someone has some links to longer trailing/control arms to slide the rear axle back a bit. (look, purple lol http://www.ebay.com/itm/Massive-Rear-Ki ... 1049718142)

After this, the next thing on my todo list is longer front brake lines. They seem to be under some tension that doesn't look good for them.

Even with longer control arms, you will likely want to shorten your drive shaft. I have seen the Massive kit installed. While they seem to be a quality product, it seems most have trouble installing them.

Well, if you're shortening the driveshaft just have the correct end put on it, problem solved

It's the axle end that changes. So, are you suggesting he has a SS size Ujoint put in his driveshaft end?

Has anyone ever thought of just buying the SS drive shaft along with the SS axle? Would not the over all length be the same?

Correct, just have the SS one welded in when they shorten it. Shouldn't be a big deal.


Robert, the distance between the transfer case and rear end is different between the I6 and V8, so you'd likely have to change the SS driveshaft length too if you attempted that... Depending on how far they move the axle back or not. I don't think anyone that has swapped to the big axles has done it the same as anyone else yet. Lot of ways to approach this project.

I talked to the guy that shortened mine about this. His answer was..

Buy another driveshaft to get the end off of. He'd charge $20 extra to put it in the lathe and spin out the weld. Plus the cost of the other driveshaft.

Buy the part from him, can't remember how much but it was more than him just shortening mine.

So I just shortened it 1.5" and got the #447 u-joint. $70 for shorten and balance and $24 for the u-joint

I thought about the SS shaft and putting it together with the stock one, but just bought 2 adaptor U-Joints and keep a spare in the truck.

I also had a steel SWB shaft and an aluminum SWB shaft and they are far different diameters and actually measured different lengths. Not by much, but they were different. Might have the info posted on here somewhere if anyone cares to look for it.

so, I've put about 500 miles on the new axle. I need to replace one of the parking brake shoes i probably should of done when it was swapped. But that's not a big deal really.

My question is, i thought i read that after the swap that my traction control and/or abs would be complaining but they seem to both be working still. Not complaining, but is that normal?

I haven't heard of an issue on the 06+. I have only heard the guys with the 04s that have been having issues.
