Anderson Power Winch Connectors...

Breaker 1-9, anybody got a copy? Any discussion or mods relating to electrons and wires go here.

by bartonmd » Mon Dec 20, 2010 12:17 pm

I searched and found a couple places they were mentioned, but if I couldn't dig the info out of the threads I'd posted in, I don't expect that most other mortals would be able to find it either...

Anybody find a better/cheaper place to buy the Anderson Power plugs for winch connections than here?

http://www.powerwerx.com/anderson-power ... 5-amp.html

$8/side, or $16 per set (+ $3.25 per dust cover)

Thanks,
Mike

I have stumbled across them at a couple of other sites but generally the same price or slightly higher. To the best of my knowledge with them Powerwerx is probably supplying most of the other places.

I use the powerpoles for my radios and several other electrical connections.

I bought mine from Expeditionexchange. Superwinch sells them as a package. Probably a tad overpriced, but I liked that it came with dust covers.

$35 for this:

Greg bought a few pairs at a great price, IIRC. Forgot where, though.

Ah, I went ahead and ordered (5) connectors from the Powerwerx place (along with the dust covers for the front, and the corrosion resistant boots for the wire side)...

(1) for the winch
(1) for the TB battery
(1) for the truck battery
(2) for an "extension cord" to run it on the rear of either vehicle...

Just out of curiousity, do you guys fuse that connection?

Thanks,
Mike

The connector is the fuse. Or the wire. :o

A large contactor relay, like the old starter relays, is one good way to make the wire harness and winch connection safe if you're running it to the back of the vehicle, for instance. I has some chafing on my positive wire between the battery and the bumper that scared the crap out of me when I found it.

This is one that I found, but I don't know if I trust a circuit breaker that I pay $7 for...

400 just seems too high. I doubt your winch will pull over 250.

You could probably short your wire and not pull 400 amps.

5.5HP * 742W/HP = 4081 Watts
4081W/12V = 340 Amps

The 5.5HP, I suspect, is a power output number... In thise case, if we consider the motor to be 85% effecient, we're talking about 4693 Watts, or 391 Amps at 12V...

I know the voltage isn't going to be 12V while pulling that much current, but it serves as good baseline...

They don't look much different than the ones on powerwerx for $30 and only capable of 150 amps.

My Harbor Fright 8K indicates 300A draw at max load. The motor is only rated at 4.1HP though.

Mike, what rating did you get? 10 or 12K?

What's the brand/make? Details details man!
