Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

MOD:cheap(free?) switch panel.

Breaker 1-9, anybody got a copy? Any discussion or mods relating to electrons and wires go here.

I used an old internet modem i had laying around, removed the screw holding it together, and removed the internals.

I was then left with a plastic shell, which i took a knife and did some minor carving to make room for my switches!
Currently has two switches, and room for a 3rd.

When it comes to mods,i tend to do it as cheap as possible,i think this looks pretty decent for what it is,it will look much better when i have a 3rd or 4th switch added in.

Left controls the roof lights(which will soon go into my bumper, roof will be replaced with 4-6 new lights on the roof)
Right controls my emergency lights,i am on the side of the road at least once a week helping somebody out. These are not meant to clear traffic out of my way,and would never be used in such a way.

here it is taped up for a test fitment,so that i could address any problems, there are none and i intend to get it permanently mounted there soon!

Thanks!

Pretty soon(a week or two) im going to put my roof lights into the bumper, and then put 4-6 larger ones across the roof,I wont have that empty spot in the middle anymore due to the 3rd switch i will put in.

Well, at least you're recycling your old plastic... Not something I would do, but it's your truck...

well its cheap, and quick....i had to have a place to put two switches ,didnt want to leave them dangling.

Was just going to use the modem skeleton, but ive decided it will not work in the long run.
Im considering an overhead console now that im seriously thinking about how many switches i may possibly have,Has anyone else bought the overhead console for such a purpose?

Not my cup of tea, but if you like it and its functional thats all that matters.

As a suggestion, how about doing something inside the center console?

Image

These are switches for a 3 hole cigarette plug that I have tucked underneath the center console insert. I have them powering my inside and outside led's, and running the remote line for my amp. There is enough room on that tray for two of these outlet set-ups, or you can figure out a way to fabricate individual switches into that location.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

I hate to cross post my own stuff... since if you searched for it, you'd find it... but as a suggestion:

Ill most likely go for an overhead console,if i can find one for the right price.

James,i would do something like that, but i use that area too often,i am planning to steal your light bar idea for my 2nd version of roof lights though.I am also considering it as an option for any other vehicles i help with, probably the TJ whenever it gets aftermarket lights and a winch...everything else.

I can still say i have not yet done anything to the vehicle which would be permanent or leave a permanent mark, this will soon change though, once i get the lights done its lift time!

Wow. I was totally unaware that Trailvoys came without overhead consoles. I guess I learned something today.

My roof light switch is in my overhead console, right next to my sunroof control. My bumper lights use my factory fog light switch as a trigger for the relay.

Moved my two roof lights to the grille/front bumper to make room for 4 new roof lights!
Im going JD's old route and going with tractor lights for now,i can upgrade again later and just use the tractor lights for my tractors then.

Switch panel now has a 3rd switch, putting an empty switch into the panel is as far as ive gotten on the install though, cant seem to find my wires, connectors and add-a-fuse,making a trip to Autozone later.

Checking the Junkyards this weekend for an overhead console also.

I've got an overhead console out of a tahoe, it's gray and the exact same type that gordinho used. I bought it hoping I could put it in place of my current one, but it's not quite the right size. I could send you pics if your interested in buying it. I'm sure we could figure out a price if you don't find one. It's in great condition. Send me a PM if you are interested
