MOD: CB Antenna

I am still bored. After the last trail run, it became apparent that a roof mount magnetic CB antenna base was no match for low lying tree branches. I wanted to see if any of it would be reusable before I went and purchased a side mount like Marios. So, I started with this


I took it apart, used a flat bracket from the hardware store, drilled one of the holes larger, and fit everything together. This is what I ended up with.

Lower on the truck and screwed down tight to the body. Shouldn't have any more wackage problems

Do you have any way to check the SWR to make sure it's functional?

Yeah, nobody likes "wackage" problems... may need some vasoline or maybe some viagra... depending on your specific problem.

But seriously... it looks good. How about some detail photos of the bracket?

D'oh! Whackage

I have not tested it yet, but I used all of the guts and termination points from the original base so there should be no problems, as everything was functional before. Going have my lil sheriff buddy test it with his radio tomorrow. Took the pic with my phone on the way out the door. I'll get some detail pics tomorrow.

Photos as promised:

Used a simple 4 hole mending brace I had from some furniture I built. Used the two holes on one side to attach it to the body. And yes, I was not afraid to drill into it

And drilled out the outer hole on the other side large enough to fit the stud from the original mount through. Rehooked my ground to that using the existing lucknut and taped at all up.
