Odd, I tuned mine at the shop, which is like a bunch of garages and it turned out fine and worked fine. I'd imagine a parking lot would be better. But what do I know. I'm not a engineer, just a glorified button pusher.

If anyone lives or will take this route then let me know; We can caravan if wanted. Yes it is very back roadish but is a route that i really enjoy.

I can tell you from experience that it is MUCH , MUCH faster to go the interstate down and around. The one that says it's 10-minutes longer... The maps software or website calculated by speed limit, and a lot of the speed limit on the twisty section is 55mph, and you can't comfortably go more than 25-30mph around a lot of those corners, so it's really close to 45 minutes longer than going the interstate. They're about the same if you're leaving from the top of the mountain, but if you're going to or leaving from the Walmart, the interstate is much faster, ESPECIALLY if you're doing any of it at night. We usually take the route that takes 35 from Dayton down to I-64, then across the WV turnpike and up 81.

FWIW, tuning only really affects transmission. You can listen and hear fine on a CB that's so out of tune that it'll burn up the transmitter.

A little longer than 3 months

But in that 3 months I'm gonna rebuild my transmission myself... should save me $1000 or more bucks.

Let me know if you need any help. Check out my thread about my build, it has links to some good youtube videos and my parts list, plus what I would do differently the next time. That said, I am going to have to do it again. Stay away from the high torque converter unless you add a trans cooler at the same time. It produced way to much heat and burnt up my trans in a matter of 10k miles.

I am going to add myself to the maybe list. I want to make this trip, it all hinges on getting my trans rebuilt and solving a few other issues that are springing up as I hit 275k miles.

I was at my buddies house yesterday and he knows a guy that does great work and doesn't rip you off, has used him on both of his trucks and has had no issues, one truck has been going for years now without issue.

$900 to rebuild my tranny, includes Corvette servos upgrade and transGo kit.

It's worth the price to save me the hassle.

That said I may go down to LKQ and pick up a 4L60e just to try rebuilding on my own and as a spare. LKQ list them for $125 +$30 core.

Rory, that sounds like a good deal. Seems like I recall one poster rebuilding himself and having about $1k in the parts.
I seem to recall it was an HD rebuild but $900 from a guy with a good rep seems like a good deal.

I did talk to the D-bag that did the rebuild last time, tried to blame it on me for not changing the fluid every 10K miles! WTF! Offered to do it again at a discount, Like I'd let him touch my truck again.

Alright so a question for all those that attend. If I am able to attend which is looking more likely would you be against a toyota joining us. The inspector at the shop I work at just picked up a tacoma SAS'd on 35's and was watching videos yesterday and I showed him one of the TECORE videos. He wanted me to ask if he would be allowed to come along.

Bobby, in the past we've had two other non-GMT360 vehicles join us. They are/were both members here. For friends that aren't members here, we generally ask that they just ride along, but if he really wants to drive his truck with us, he's going to need to become a member here and understand the modus operandi of our group.
