Are you planning to just add that side piece as part of the bumper in the future? It would seem easier to just weld it in place as part of the bumper when you build them.

Could you have made the wing piece in the shape of a 7 and welded it to the tire side and top of the bumper? Not sure if it would be more work than it's worth, but you could form two of them out of a square piece rathern than near as much material to make one as you are making them now.

Also, have you thought about bringing out the top of the "wing" out even with the front of the fender and then angling the smaller down piece to meet the bumper?

Glad you posted shots of what this will look like, the cardboard piece just didn't do any justice to what you had planned.

However you do them is what i'll be going with, just putting up some ideas/questions.

I'm going do do the wings as the end pieces... They were an after-thought on this prototype...

The angles don't work out if you go from the front of the fender, straight down... This flows the best with the bumper lines, though the fender sticks out a little in front... no way around it without completely re-designing the bumper...

Thanks,
Mike

That does look sweet.

I didn't mean straight down, but more to follow the fender line down, but after looking at it, that piece would then stick out from the front of the bumper a little bit the way it would have to be built.

Can't wait to get mine installed...

Exactly... The bumper would have to stick out farther in order to do that...

On a side note, the wife officially said she "didn't care" whether I left the bumper or or not, after I put the blending wings on it! If a graphic designer who LOVES to tell me I'm wrong likes it, it can't be that bad!

Anyone want to buy my bumper???? Tow Hooks, Fogs, etc?

I'm still interested depending on overall cost (shipping to CA might kill the deal) and timing. Although one of Mike's bumpers would be nice. I'd have to wait until he had one for a 06 LT. My center grill drops below the bottom of the headlights. Let me know.

You can always just cut off the bottom of your grille.

what would it take and how much extra would it be to put a 2in hitch on the bumper?

Check out the Group Buy thread...

The original prototype bumper now has a new home!

It definitely gives it a much tougher and meaner look. I have some thoughts for filling in behind the bumper mounted lights, and I think the lights are going to be changed out for a larger option anyway to fill the space some. All in all I am loving it.

bartonmd wrote:The mounts on this bumper are 22" ID... can go a little farther out, but not a whole lot, because of the frame...

Spacing between my vertical plates on the WAAG is 30", 1" overhang for the rubber strip, so visually, we're talking 28" of space between the 2 vertical bars. 22" ID between the shackle mounts put the ends of the shackles themselves at close to 30" apart... Moving the mounts out would only make it worse, unless you were to go really out, like JD's bumper... where the mounts are under the headlights.

This would put your brackets on the angled portion of the bumper, like JD's... Not sure if that is possible for you? If not... maybe move them in closer together? something like 18" ID?

Mario, looking at all the pics of his bumper it looks like it'll have a decent amount of room between the shackles and the inside edge of the guard. I'm planning on doing the same thing your thinking and I think it'll work out just fine.

Your shackle mounts will be on the inside, about as far away as James' are on the outside... 3" between the shackle mount outside and the inside of the WAAG... Plenty of room, if you put the threads on the shackle on that side...

I just dont want them to be too close to the bars... thats all...

Just covering my bases. I'd hate to have to grind them off and reweld them.
