Did a 4wd disco rebuild today, not too bad. Nothing broke and everything went Into place nicely and it is working now. Also fixed the slipped cv boot I had so it was a good overall day.

Here you have some pictures of the action. I sheared the shaft on the fork causing the 4wd to not engage correctly and cut out on me as well. After removing everything and cleaning all the bad grease out and checking the gears I also checked the bearings which were in perfect condition so there was no need to replace those, or the axle seal. So I lucked out with that. No cracks in the case either, I took off half the case and left the other half on the truck. It was nice to be able to use the shop to work on it instead of my driveway...makes a world of difference being in a nice shop with a lift, more tools and access to extremely intelligent and knowledgeable mechanics who can help me when I need a second opinion. Overall, I am very happy with how today went and now all I need is new tires and i'll be all set for the winter!

Went and got my rear breaks replaced...turns out the right side slider pin was stuck, preventing one of the pads from releasing. A piece of it was grinding against the rotor. I wish I got a picture...it was phenomenal.

Went outside to refill the front diff because I could tell it was low. As I was emptying my royal purple container into the diff I notice a dripping, first thought that comes to mind is the fluid reached it fill level and was overflowing, so I stop and peek in closer to make sure it was full. Then I notice that the leak is not coming from the fill plug but the bottom of my differential...well guys looks like ill have a fun time next Saturday when I get back from my trip to Pennsylvania (not driving the tb) I didn't look closely at it yet, it was too dark, I was too angry. I'll throw her on the lift when I get back. Hoping I didn't blow a hole in the case.

Probably just a loose drain plug. It's happened to me a handful of times. Hopefully you caught it before any bearing damage occurred which happened to my front diff.

Don't think it's the drain plug, although I will check that, it came from (when you look at the diff from driver wheel well) the lower right side.

Well if it's coming from the rear of the diff, then I would think its the pinion seal, or maybe your housing is just loose. I think you need to pull the front diff to replace the pinion seal...

Spent all day replacing the damn water pump. The pump itself is easy. The PITA is getting the fan/shroud off. Got it all put back together, started it up to check for leaks. Everything is perfect. Until I go to drive it around the block, and hit about 2400rpms and hear a most unsettling noise. It's my fan clutch bearing thingy going out... :wallbash: Just had that out of the truck! Oh well, time to start pricing out a new one.

Pretty sure my front wheel bearings have finally toasted themselves after 81k original miles on them, have a nice growl and vibration just under 30mph. Cant feel/ hear anything above that due to the mud tires. Don't have too much spare cash laying around after the holidays so looks like I'm going to snag a cheapie pair of eBay ones to get me by a couple months.

FWIW, I'm using cheapie Ebay ones. I think Bill has/is as well.

An hour of my time to change something if it fails prematurely is worth $200 in my pocket.

I use the ebay cheapies as well. I run them for about 10 months of the 1 year warranty and then have them replaced under the warranty.

If it turns out being $76/ yr for fresh bearings on a lifted truck, I feel that's pretty good compared to the other crap which sees wear and tear. ( cough: disconnect :cough)

FWIW, I've been running eBay specials and have been pleasantly pleased as well. I spent 115$ for my pair. The pair I got were from Detroit Axle. I forget who it is, that's running front axles from them, but that's the reason I went with them. I'm pretty sure they were Enkinida brand, the hubs, that is.

Including the half shaft, cheap bearing, and couple TREs that I'm ordering as spares, plus the fluids I'm getting locally, the 100k service for the TB is going to be close to $500...

Oil/filter
Trans filter/gasket
Dex 6 fluid
Autotrac fluid
Rear diff fluid
synthetic in the front diff
Delco plugs
Delco wires (effin' $40 for 8 little 4" wires. Locally, the cheap place wanted a little over $100, and $40 for cheapies!)
Delco thermostat
Coolant
Delco radiator cap
Delco serp. belts (AC and drive)
Drive serp belt tensioner (good thing to have a spare of, out in the middle of nowhere)
