Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

What did you do to your GMT today?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by mikekey » Thu Apr 11, 2013 12:25 am

We just built a beefed up version of JD's roof racks. This time with better materials, ie steel bars, stainless steel u bolts and welded mounting plates. See everyone Friday morning in our ghetto rig.
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.

He tried, but when you're 69, well, you don't move as fast as you used to. So, not sure what to do. Won't get anything done before leaving for TECORE tomorrow. The sliders are technically built, they just aren't mounted , and I don't have time to drop the rig off tomorrow in the "hope" that it will get done.

Can you tell I'm frustrated? Especially since I just wasted a vacation day.....Oy!

You didn't really waste it when you look what you got done! The rack and tow hooks are probably more important then the rock sliders.

You need local wheeler friends. If you were in WA we'd all be in my driveway right now with spotlights welding on your sliders.

Thanks for the thought guys. I know there are a few GMTNation guys here, but I believe they are all SS guys. There is a huge Florida 4x4 group, but they seem to be mostly cocky Jeep guys (if the fb page is a good measure). But yeah, some local wheeling friends that we could trust would be nice.

I'll post a picture of the mounts once the sun is up.

First, my wife built this yesterday when the original idea didn't work.

Two 48in x 1 1/4in x 1/16in square steel tubing. The plates in the roof rails are 1/4 steel plate with a hole drilled out and a carriage bolt thru it which has it's head welded to the plate. And of course, 4 u-bolts.

It's solid enough for me to stand on. :friday:

I was going to try this, but this won't work with the factory GM roof rails because of the shape. If the roof rails for the stock bars where actually square it might work. But welding mounting tabs onto the rack and then trying to slide it in won't work since they curve.

I woke up in mine. Was a great night of sleep after a party for my buddy who is about to become a dad.

Pic from when I woke up.

Oil change, tire rotation, and blacked out the grill.
