Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Tube Bumper

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

I was actually going to do the same exact bumper he used. The problem I saw with it is you have to modify the frame horns to do so because it has to adapt to be the same as the jeep frame horns. For me, it was not economical to do so when I could spend less money on a winch bumper base from Mike. I did base my ideas for my custom bumper off of Teebes model and other ones like it. In the end, I think it is better to buy Mikes full steelie or build off of a solid base like his winch base. I am extremely glad with the fact that I have a winch built into my bumper, if i didn't, I would have broken it by driving it into the ground or a rock because it sticks out so far. It is also a hassle to be stuck, then haul out a big ass winch if you haven't already hooked it up.

Steve - Your bumper is another one that seems well off - I could never put the pictures of your rig to your name though.

Did you do all the fab work yourself? I do like the look of it - it seems functional and matches the bumper design teebees has.

I had mike tack together the center solid piece you see on it and drill out holes for a winch. I finish welded the rest as well as bent and welded up the rest of it myself. I personally like mine better because I cocked the two main bars branching off the center hoop to give it an angry look. Came out just as I had hoped for.

I expect this is why Mike has a 6 month backlog on bumpers.

Exactly, and why it took me 3 revisions to get it how I wanted it.

There are always revisions! If I were to build another rear bumper, I'd do things differently as well... Building something is most definitely a learning process.

Okay, thats a mega type bumper like MDBs. I've always liked his look, its indifferent; their bumper is realitively expensive too.

I do like that swept look though.

To be honest, if you don't want to wait for an MDB bumper, build one yourself if you can get access to the necessary tools. It's quicker, depending on your work speed, and much cheaper...it's also a great learning experience on how to weld and bend metal...mine was my first major welding job and I was unsure on the strength it had, I hit two guard rails with it at 30mph and nothing happened at all so it was some pretty decent welding haha...but learning new things is always a plus especially when welding is such a needed skill in this hobby.
