lift gate sounds like it is continuously locking when open

Something not working right?

by Pancreat1cFail » Wed Feb 20, 2013 3:18 pm

I have no idea why and cant seem to figure out why its doing this but when ever my lift gate/hatch whatever you want to call it is open it sounds like it is continuously locking/unlocking it won't stop after any period of time it just keeps going. Its the most annoying thing has anyone else had this problem and fixed it or do I need to just deal with it

Never heard of anything like that before.

Have you asked on GMTNation.com? There's a much broader sample of 360 owners there who may have had a similar problem.

Almost always broken wiring in the rubber boot up by the liftgate hinge line. Or a stuck button on one of your remote fobs.

i dont think its a stuck button because none of the other doors do it and its only when open, when the lift gate is closed there is no issue

It's probably the glass lock that is activating and deactivating. I haven't looked nor thought much of it before, but mine seems to have some sort of lockout functionality for the glass section, so it cannot be opened while the liftgate is open. Of course, I'm going from recollection here, but I seem to recall it making some sort of lock noise after the tailgate is lifted a few inches. Whatever sensor it's getting it's signal from is where I'd begin my check.

Odd indeed.
