Tie Rod Replacement Help

Something not working right?

by Coloradolawdobe » Tue Oct 25, 2011 1:56 pm

Hello all,

So I was over getting my new MTRs on today before our first big snow that is forecasted for tonight/tomorrow and I was informed that my front/driver side tie rod needs to be replaced. I was then later informed that an alignment would be futile because any major bump would knock the alignment out and thus the alignment would be a waste of money. Now, it appears that the part price (big surprise) is rather expensive compared to tie rods online. However, there appears to be multiple tie rod elements and I have no idea which part is the one that needs to be replaced. Is there some type of way by looking at the TB to determine which part of the tie rod assembly is blown? Any help/advice would be terrific! Thanks!

usually the easiest way is to have someone rock the steering back and forth while you crawl under it and look for play.

There are a couple good write-ups here on this site about changing tie-rod ends and the parts and pieces. Also, you can get all new parts via web order for less than $100.00.

Search function may be working now. :coffee:
