cv install and new hubs ...??

Something not working right?

by JamesDub » Sat Apr 09, 2011 6:29 am

So ...
I have a question or two to you all ....
Please don't say search for the answer .
I just bought new cardone cv shafts and new timken hubs complete to install wed .
I have a shop that will do it for $100 but I have buddies that will help me for free.. :salut:

So do you all suggest I put the 4" clamps on the new CV boots at install or are the cardones clamps good to go ?

Any complete writeups that I'm missing to help me on THESE TWO specific installs TOGETHER to make my life a lil easier ...?

I'd go for the 4" clamps right off, I bought the Cardone axles and the clamp busted off after just a couple months. As for the axles getting them out, use some drift pins or something of that nature to make it easy, I think I used a large coal chisel and the axles popped right out.

Hi. Search noob. Also, this belongs in Truck Discussion, this isn't offroad related.

:finger:

Why do you NEED Kevlar MTRs? Most of what I've heard about them from folks who have them is they aren't worth the money GY wants for them.

We have a section called how to (found in the menu above) ... http://www.offroadtb.com/articles/how-to-guides

There's a wheel bearing replacement article in there. Pretty straight forward really. Here's a direct link, noob. :raspberry: http://www.offroadtb.com/articles/how-t ... eplacement

There isn't much more to the CV shafts... once you have the hubs out of your spindle, just whack the hell out of the inside of the tripod joint housing (hammering from under the vehicle, use a steel drift... you can also use a slide hammer with the right attachment). They will eventually work free, but it takes a lot of muscle and a lot of hammering.

I am yet to hear a good story about them. Plenty of better tires available for the same or less money...

Km2 are solid tires, my pro comp xtreme mt are incredible.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

I got the ProComps the first month they came out in the size I wanted and they ROCKED. Got me on the Rubicon, but I wore 'em out. General Grabbers now. Kevlar doesn't help as much as you might think on the trail.
