Low fuel indicator!

Something not working right?

by signguy62 » Tue Dec 14, 2010 9:24 am

Low fuel indicator light keeps comming on even when the tank is full. On start up, light comes on and stays on for a while, then goes out again. Happens almost every time the truck is started. Any ideas?

Either a ground somewhere, or the sender in the tank is faulty...

Is it just the light? or is the fuel gauge also dipping?

If both the light and gauge are indicating no fuel on a full tank, its due to sulfur build up on the sending unit. It's a common issue on Chevy trucks, only way to fix it is to replace the unit in the tank.

Mine's been faulty for two years now. Someday I'll replace the whole pump assembly.

Sulfur build-up, or mechanical wear on the sensor feeler arm contacts. In either case - poor GM design for longevity while chasing the last dime of cost reduction.

Lol, now I feel like less of a procrastinator haha. I have had the part to fix mine for about a year.

Thanks for all the input. Gauge has been faulty ever since I bought the truck ( I think stepper ). So I've been relying on the trip odometer and the low fuel level indicator light. Guess I'll just have to go by the trip odo for now.
