Vibration/Rattle in the Rear

Something not working right?

by kodachrome9319 » Wed Nov 03, 2010 10:17 pm

Ever since my 4th flat on these road tires and not putting the flat tire back in its spot (strapped to the roof for the drive home), I've had a horrible rattle when idling... I put the spare back up after patching the flat, I've still got the damn rattle.

Any ideas? When I get a saw powerful enough to cut metal, that resonator comes off, that *might* be the issue, something hitting it? I hate rattles!

Thanks!

I would guess its one of the heat shields that protect the tire. They are only in with a couple push pins, stick your head under there and pull them out and see if it solves the issue.

Make sure your drop down wire that held your tire up is tightened all the way. The engine vibrations could be rattling this, and if it was not cranked all the way back up its just metal on metal shaking.

I had a weird metallic rattle on my truck. took forever to find it. Turned out it was the dust shield on the drivers side brake calliper rubbing against the rotor. Bent it back to the normal position and the sound was gone.
