Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

I think my G80 is not G80ing...

Something not working right?

It makes it a little difficult to pull a tight turn without squeaking a tire, but I usually just end up making wider turns or doing a 3 point turn. It does however feel awfully solid when you smash on the gas pedal. No uneven wheel slippage, and you are going in whatever direction the car is facing (not necessarily a good thing if you whip the rear end sideways)

Tires do squeal but you just dont goose the gas then. I bet the SS was fun as hell.

My K5 had a Detroit Locker in the rear, and I've driven more than my share of vehicles that would happily send both rear tires up in smoke with minimal pressure on the gas pedal. Driving it isn't my concern. Obliterating soft compound MT tires overly quickly is.

Of course... that'd be a good reason to get 35's...

Amazingly, my G80 actually locked in when I needed it today. The missing cam gear teeth and chipped spider gears still have me worried though.

Why not just replace the cam gear and the spider gears?

I'm 200 into the rear end as it sits. It's over 400 more for the gear kit and cam plate. That's 600+ to keep this axle going... Until my carrier decides to explode. If I'm going to start dropping that kind of coin, I'd rather look at stronger options or at least an option that's cheaper to fix.

Hell, I'd almost consider a 7.5" out of a 4th gen F body. Probably similar in strength, but a dime a dozen out here and already set up for coils. Plus there are true locker options for it.

HHHMMMMMM...I was far rougher on my TA rear than I am on this one and it never broke. You may be on to something. Have you researched widths and mounting points.

My Camaro's 7.5 is still going strong after countless launches on sticky tires. It's an M6 car as well... so that rear has really seen some shock.

I may have to run up to my brother in laws place where it's stored and measure it.

It's set up coils/control arms/panhard just like Trailvoys.

I had a 96 M6 Z and then a 97 M6 TA. You might be on to something.

Maybe I should yank the motor out of the Camaro and put it in the TB too.

My Google-Fu has netted me a width of 65.5" flange face to flange face on 4th gen rear axles. So at least the width is close.
