Something not working right?

When you were hit, were you in park, or were you in a gear with your foot on the brake?

I wasn't in the truck. The truck was running in park in 4 hi. When he hit me he hit me to the right of the tow hook that's welded on mikes bumper if you were looking out of the vehicle. The truck slid about a foot. So he hit me on the disconnect side of the bumper. 4 wheel drive worked until I turned the wheel to the left the steering wheel shook a little and I could hear a humming sound turn to the right I felt nothing. Then it's stopped working. I switched back to 4 hi and it worked for a little while then popped out again. On the way home on the road my buddy hit a deer so I pulled over while they were checking the scene out and it went back in when I switched it. But not for long.

Being in park is the key to why it failed I think. Essentially you had a locked front prop shaft. So when you were hit something had to absorb the impact energy that slid you a foot. You were probably on fairly solid ground, so maybe the front tires didn't skid easily. It's a similar sort of impact to spinning up a tire really fast, and then gaining traction suddenly (like if you have a front tire off the ground, and the truck tipped forward) (you see this a lot on open diff'd vehicles)... but instead of the inertia of a rotating tire to absorb, you had the inertia of an entire vehicle to absorb.

I'd still like to see the pictures you promised us. Very strange the piece of the puzzle that actually got tweaked.

I honestly can't tell much from that image...

But $500 for the trip? Does your truck drink that much gas?

According to your flow chart that was the issue now it's working again. We will see I'm going out again tomorrow.
