by dirty anton » Thu Mar 24, 2011 11:59 am

i hear ya, remember it being really frustrating. i had just gotten off of a trail with my tb (stock) a few years ago, got back on highway then it sounded like a bunch of little rocks rattling around under me. all that aside everything was normal for a little while then trans problems. hopefully its not that!

I think I have the same sound, but its a deeper noise, like rocks in a lead/steel can. It sounds like its coming from the TC as well. It started minutes after my first deep water crossing followed by some intense wheeling. The noise comes and goes, havent heard it in a while. My first thought was that it was pieces of the catalitic converter in the muffler but that is not the case.

I'ld be interested in pulling the rear driveline. I had a simular noise on mine, but the Ujoints didn't feel loose. That is until I pulled the driveline, they didn't have lash because they were broken up enough that all the needle bearings were all bunched up....

Pulled driveshaft and rear u joint is toast. Just moving by hand makes the popping cracking sound and it echos right up the driveshaft...

HARDTRAILZ

You going to put together a little 'how to' on this? There may be a few members or lurkers who don't know how it's done. :poke:

I thought it was simple. Read up on trailvoy and removal replacement and reinstall was quicker than trip to get u. Joint. As shown on os i greased the slip and no issues. 20 min remove to reinstall. Torch and rented press made it easy.

Easier trail fix now too if you twist one apart...

The heaviest duty lifetime guarantee one from advance. Non greasable because the fitting makes a weak spot. I don't belive you can change size with our shaft so it should work.

I got those on my FDS. Well you probably could as like what I did for my jeep, I got some for my rear driveshaft and they are the biggest I could get I think they are a Spicer 5760X I believe is the number and they are considerably beefier than the ones on it right now.

Food for thought though.
