po446

Something not working right?

by Mooseknuckle » Mon Mar 19, 2012 1:42 am

got the code po446. evaporative emission system (evap) purge/vent.
I went to auto zone and had them print me out what their scan gauge picked up. It says probable cause purge or vent solenoids defective and to check the wiring and connector fuel saturated vapor canister. Since I was just wheeling this past Friday night I'm leaning towards purge and the vent solenoids. From what I have read when to much dirt and grim gets in there it's a rap so much so that I'm not sure if this is completely accurate but people have had such a problem with this they came out with a kit to relocate the vents
can anyone validate that? Also where the hell are these vents located near the front o2 sensor? I'm gonna order both the purge and vent solenoids and a new gas cap from rock auto to start knocking out possibilities before I get to the larger purchase, the vapor canister. Hopefully it will be the vents. Thanks in advance.

Did you check your gas cap. I think this was the code I got when it wasn't on right

Jeff, a lot of these are under the rear deck, over the spare tire area... though, I believe some of it is on top of the fuel tank.

I may be able to get you a copy of the factory troubleshooting procedure to give you some assistance.

Thank you guys. I replaced the purge solenoid right behind the driver side tire. Looked fine to me no dirt or anything. I also replaced the purge vent in the rear it has a filter in it took it a part cleaned it out but still replaced to try to eliminate what might be throwing that code. Yes I also got a new gas cap which the old one wasn't really causing a seal. Once i put the new one on man what a difference, sealing wise. Doesn't this vehicle go through a drive cycle before it will shut off the light if it finds nothing wrong, meaning what I replaced worked?

you could disconnect the battery or have your local auto parts store reset it.
