No not yet. I got to get a number and find time to call. busy trying to get ready for this move, and now having to worry about the wild fire burning south like 10 miles working its way this way

So I just thought of something I think that Mike Barton told me, but I am going to try to see what I can do to see it the truck was in a front end accident. If it was maybe something was not done right and might be off causing it to wear faster. That was the side with a bad wheel hub when I first got it, plus had a wheel hub go out in PA, plus the 2 blown shocks so far. I did notice that I have new camber adjustment plates, new headlights, and other new end parts on the front. Ball joints, tire rods, and yea a few others. So that might be what has happened. I don't know yet though. I need to get things looked at and need to have my Vin ran to see if that might be it.

VIN stuff is for options and recall campaigns.... you need CarFax.

Do you have any pictures of the failure? I'd like to try to determine a cause. There doesn't seem to be any reason for failure that close to the threads because the loads should only be simple tensile and compression. Is there some way a bending load is being passed to the strut piston?

Im going to pull it down today after work and take some pictures and try and figure out what might be causing it to break according to car fax the truck has never been in an accident hopefully I can rule that out

The one that PEP BOYS sells, I would have to go look. I dont really remember. All I know is I dont think El Paso likes my truck. Still got a lot of little things to fix starting with the 4WD first.

That's got to be a straight-up tensile stress failure. There can't be any bending loads that high in the thread. I'm beginning to wonder if Bilstein just had a bad batch that went out the door. It would be interesting to compare the build dates from the 3 failed units so far. I'd almost bet they are close.

Well the first one that I ordered was back while I was deployed in Afghan, I would say Nov or Dec time frame, then the second one was the end of April this year. But for me it was only the Driver side that I was having problems with. The passenger side aint had nothing wrong with *knock n wood*

Maybe over-torqued the second one, and weakened the threads? I know it was put on while you were traveling... Did whoever did it put the top nut on with an impact?

I put the last one that broke on my self with a wrench in my buddies drive way. I dont think that I over torqued it at all. I just think that I am having bad luck with this truck.
