Quite possible, I've seen guys over on the Corvette forums piece together their own control arms and steering racks and all kinds of suspension components for a fraction of the cost of the stuff you buy. Usually by sourcing the peaces or fabing themselves. Not something I'm personally ever likely to attempt on my own anytime within the next 5 yrs. :lurk:

If I could, I'd be doing all kinds of wonky stuff. I love to experiment. Sadly, for the TB platform I'm at the bolt on level of experience.

Now if we talked more about compression ratios and cam shaft selections than we do gear ratios and input shafts, I'd have more to offer.

I found another option from Rough Country. It's a sleeve that goes over the weak part of the 2500 tie rod end.

Input everyone???

Just get a bunch of extra jam nuts and put them over the threaded portion. That's what I did.

Do you have to cut it to length?

Otherwise, it seems like there'd always be an exposed section of thread to buckle.

Eric, do you know the diameter of the threads on those HD TREs? I'd like to calculate the buckling force of that rod.

I'm pretty tempted to give it a wing on Moot's idea after talking to him.

That Fabtech set looks interesting.

So does the Rare Parts, which includes at least one measurement in their photo

If we can do an HD TRE upgrade, it stands to reason we could use one of these upgrade TRE's.

It's just a wee bit of a gamble price wise. The regular 2500HD ends are like what, 35$ from Rock Auto?

I do wonder if some decent stock style with the rough country sleeve would be enough though. Simple, but stronger and not a lot of cost to try. I may just order them and see how they do, but buy a back up set just in case. Still be cheaper, but will be a pain if it doesnot work out and the bigger ones still need bought.

but if it does work then you saved 200$ on tres and only out 30$ if they don't and a spare tre. I'm willing to try out those sleeves they seem like an effective way to strengthen the stock TRE. I would look at the fab techs or the CST poly if I was upgrading bigger though.

Does anyone know if Moog uses the same thread between the inners and outreach so the sleeve could be used on them. I was told they would be so that people could replace an inner OR outer. Cause Im thinking Moogs with sleeves would be about $200 total...

A little research has found some claims on H2 forums that the Fabtech outers are Moog outers, just the inner is different.

so really then the sleeves would be fine to protect the stock hd inners if the ones you have, have not failed.

Cognito and Kryptonite are brands showing up with the Hummer guys.

Figure the silvy, H2, duramax forums will be full of experience and reviews.

The RC sleeves fit over the body of the tie rod end. Any tie rod end with larger than stock TRE body can not use them. I ordered Moog and I currently plan to use nuts as fishticks suggested as there is only a little exposed thread on mine. However... If I can find a way I may build my own sleeves to fit the Moog. I can't justify the cost of these premium TREat.
