New Springs... 88's

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

Just wanted to get a thread started since I found out these should be here Thursday. I plan to install them right away so I can have the height for Windrock this weekend. Gonna try n show up some JK Jeeps.

What pre measurements and post measurments do ya'll want? I am rushing through this to get them installed and get an alignment before heading out Friday at 1.

Hub center -> fender before and after.

Might I suggest you swap your UCAs while you're in there? :)

If there is time I might flip, but want to look at mine to see if they are boxed and the truck is at work since I had to take a freaking 6 hour road trip for work today and i like using the states fuel.

If you don't mind, could you do a simple test for me when you're replacing your springs?

Unbolt the two bolts holding the strut assembly to the frame, pull down your wheel until the upper balljoint reaches max travel, and measure the space between the top of your strut assembly and the frame mount.

I did mine after I swapped UCAs, but not before. I'd like to get a before measurement to see how much was actually gained.

Kyle, can you measure the compressed spring height as it sits today... then the same measurement with the new springs in place?

Current compressed is 10 inches. 24 inches from center to fender. Strut loose and 300 lbs on it...drops only .25 in maybe.

Regulator is gonna tke strut assemblies to get new springs changed in for me since we just got them out. I wheeled Windrock this weekend and it is nuts, but not for the faint of heart wish I had more ground clearance.

OMG what a huge pain in the ass these springs were to replace. I started out running to a few shops with the assemblies in hand, and no one would touch them after they saw the new springs and the lift blocks. I ended up renting the spring compressors from Advance and came back to do them myself. Wow, these are really stiff!!!! it took me 3 hours to be able to compress one spring and get it on the truck. I then waited for Kyle to get back, and we finished it later that evening when it cooled down.

Post Installation Measurements:

compressed spring was almost 11". Truck sat at 42" from ground to fender. 26.75" from center of hub to the fender.

There is a big change in the upper ball joint angle, as well as the half shaft angle. Kyle is going to run them to Carlisle and see if they settle some, but otherwise these may not be usable for any heavy demand. The angles are really severe!

I am sure he will update more tomorrow.

So it got you an extra 1.5"?

What springs did you have stock?

I think I had 82, let me look at chart, but I got almost 2.75 inches. But that was after my springs had sagged an inch.

The big issue is tht upon initial or under 30 acceleration, the front seems to shimmey side to side. Not sure if this is due to the shft angles or what, but I need it fixed. It feels like the shafts are not fully engaged. But over 30 you can acccelerate without any shimmey.

Any ideas?

The more toward vertical your control arms get, the more it will wander side to side as they move up and down...

I am hoping for an inch of settiling or going to pull the top spcers to restore the shaft angles.

Need to let these settle and see what happens, but the truck sits level.

You said your compressed spring before was 10in, and now it's 11in... that would infer 1" of spring lift, 1.5" of wheel lift. Is that not the case?

Trying to understand if my math and data is sound.

Those are the right numbers basically but I went from 24 to 26.75 center of hub to fender which is 2.75 inch of lift. The spring can only be so long to get the nut on top of strut. You cant stretch the strut, so it has to work on a sliding pecentage, not a strict ratio of 1-1.5 or something.

I think of it like sidewalls on tires. Not all 75 series tires have same sidewall height.

When measuring, did you drive around the block then measure on a flat surface, or did you just drop it and measure? Wheels need to walk out by driving to get a good measurement.

For reference, I am currently at 23.5" hub-fender. If we take away 3" for Kyles body lift that puts us at very similar angles. I believe due to my shims, that I will have slightly more droop than Kyle, unless you guys weren't able to tighten the top nuts on the struts all the way.

Assuming I have slightly more droop, and that my CVs are marginal at full droop, Kyle should be ok CV wise. Currently my UBJs are fine, but Kyle hasn't flipped his UCAs has he?

Nice... but how is it that your 33s now look small? :poke: :raspberry:

Just kidding. That's a lot of lift.
