Stuck upper strut mount

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

I've tried all I know. Compressed the spring just fine, top nut came off, now I can't get the mount off the shaft..? Couldn't pry it off, tried to rotate it off, finally I cut the shaft flush with the bushing to try to use a punch. I still can't get this off.
Any help?

Well.. The upper mount and strut are now junk..So if it were me, i would heat up the center metal insert that is molded into rubber mount until the rubber separates from insert..
Remove the garbage mount and decompress the spring..
Someone else may have a better idea, but thats what i have done couple times..

Safety Note:
DO NOT ATTEMPT HEATING OF METAL INSERT WITHOUT SPRING COMPRESSORS ON THE SPRINGS..

Im not trying to save these mounts, after seeing the condition of the bushing.
I've tried heat, that's what caused havoc on that upper bushing first. Maybe not ;enough... I'll prolly just cut the shaft and slide the spring out.

:Iagree:
More heat and a BFH. Known as the Thor hammer at my place. :viking:
ALSO AGREE USE EXTRA CAUTION WHEN DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE WHILE SPRING IS COMPRESSED.
I put a few C clamp vise grips through the spring with the compressors when i had to go to the Thor while doing the same thing. Just in case.

the shock shaft is gonna be hard to cut.

I'd just burn out the bushing, at this point it doesn't matter, it'll take 5 minutes.

If you don't want to be bothered I have 89 springs and shocks for sale in the classifieds lol

Just take the pressure off the spring, and let the spring shoot the bushing across the room.

I tried that....as one of my great ideas. Didn't work.

I ended up cracking the spring comp. right by the threads. Took it to work to burn the bushing out and when I tightened it down in the vise it broke. I quickly put some big c-clamp vise grips on it.(As suggested above) Wrapped a chain around it a few times so I knew the spring wasn't going anywhere, stood back and took a torch to the other spring comp. Hopefully the other side will go smoother, either way Ill have new mounts, and struts.

Any opinions on what mount to buy. Looking at the KYB and Monroe. Price seems about the same.

Your spring compressor might've cracked because you didn't grease up the threads. Roadie might fine you for such a violation.
I've got POS bilstein shocks in 89s with torn up 2" BDS spacers.... if you're interested. lol

Thanks , but I've got some new bilsteins going in.

Used anti seize on the bottom of the threads. Started cracking where the casting marks are. I'm sure I didn't have something going right, or else we'd see lots more of morons breaking compressors. Image

I replaced new upper control arm bushings in the front suspension, and when installing Marks 3" new spacer my bolt seemed flush with the top of the spacer and no way to thread the bolt on.
The second issue was the bolts on Marks 3" spacer did not want to go into the spring perch bolt holes on the frame, it seemed the holes were too small.
