what shocks for rear with moog 81049 and 2" spacer

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by harvyne » Fri May 09, 2014 1:39 am

I have added my markmc 2.5" lift and i put stock replacement coil springs(moog 81049) in rear with the 2" spacer. My rear shocks are banging/thuding now over bumps, ive done alot of research and im narrowed down to the skyjackers or the bds shocks. I know alot of you add the z71 springs for added lift but im certain my springs are stock height for envoy. Which rear shock will bolt on without any mods or adding spacers/washers etc. to the factory mount.
thanks

I think the BDS shocks are the only lift shocks that have our spacers built in.
I think BDS offers a Fox shock as an upgrade, it might have the spacers built in as well. You'll need to check on that.

It not bad adding the washers, really easy and you only need them on the bottom. I used the skyjackers N8030. Check out there web site under scratch and dent. I could not find anything wrong with them.

I run the N8030s as well. I think I have 8 washers on each side of each shock or something like that. It's no big deal adding the washers.

I'm running the same skyjacker shocks and I really like them. I have posted in my build how many wahsers and the thickness of the washers I used.

Form his build "20, 7/16" Grade 8 washers to shim the lower half of the shock(where it mounts to the axle)."

I found a way to pull the bushing out of the original shock. My method was dangerous so I wont post it... haha but you can remove the spacer from the stock shock and use it on the Skyjacker N8030. A press or maybe heat???

You're likely over extending the shock. So the internals are slamming into the top as it extends. Eventually it'll rip itself apart, might be tomorrow, might be in a couple months. At the point that happens you'll have no shock at all and you'll just be bouncing on the spring. It would be disagreeable.

My skyjackers show rusting after less than 6 months but function well.

The shocks MUST be the thing that gets slammed at full extension. It's all we have to prevent the axle from pulling the brake lines out. Mounts might make noise if they aren't assembled with the right parts, but the shocks can't be overextended because they are the limiting element for extension (unless you've added limiting straps)

i replaced my shocks 6 months ago with gabriels and they are all rusted out. the finish on them doesnt last long. i may throw a coat of rustoleum paint on the skyjackers before install.
I drive 7 miles to work on smooth road so that will be the extent of my driving till i get my shocks.
