These are tires that I have been considering since the last time I lifted. As always, there are mixed emotions from everyone. Probably since they aren't a popular brand name. I came upon such a good deal on a used set locally that I had to get them. So for $130, I'm going throw this used set of 285/75/16s on to test before I commit to buying a new set. They look pretty good in person. Better shape than the Firestones I had and at least as aggressive. If they perform like I think they will with their current wear, I'm sure new will be worth the money. I will continue to update this thread.

They do look to be about 90%, its just 90% gone!

Exactly. And if I like the ten percent, I'll order the other 90! But seriously, they are only temporary. Read the first post. The point is to test the tires before I commit to buy them as new. If they suck off road with the size of those side lugs, they aren't going to be worth the price with 100% tread. At least I know they wear well.

I dont think it would be fair to judge a tire on so little tread.

130 is a great price Bob but there isn't a lot of tread on them and zero is kinda right it's not really fair to judge tires they cant really perform to the fullest with the little tread they have left. If you wanted them for shit kickers get them I'm sure it's great to have a spare set around. Personally I wouldn't waste your cash. I know you want tires bad I'm sure your itching by now. I'm gonna call a guy tomorrow once again. I saw hold out for a little bit longer.

These aren't any kind of permanent solution, just a set of "shit kickers" that I can run until I get the new set. Then I'll have these to use as spares. They aren't new by any means, but they are better than what I have now. They will provide a degree of trail worthiness and they are safe for the streets. Tread is coming in at 7/32 in the center, which should get me about 10k. Certainly more than I will put on before they become my full size spares. For $130, and getting them installed free, I couldn't turn em down. So yes, they are sitting in the garage and will go on before the week is over.

Whereas I do agree that they will not represent the performance of a new replacement, I think that the performance as they are will be indicative of what to expect without the wear.

I totally disagree. Tire rubber compounds become hard over time, the steel belts stretch and flex, side walls soften, ect.

The only thing those tires will tell you is how they will perform if you ever get another set and wear them down that low.

The difference between a new tire, and one that is on its last leg is beyond night and day.

I have been building custom vehicles for years, and work at a special fx / stunt fab shop. We have built some of the craziest vehicles film has seen...most recently we did DeathRace....my point is, we have seen / used thousands of tires, new and old....and you could take the best freakin tire in the world....strip it of almost all of its tread, and age it a few years.....it will run like shit compared to a new one. SO dont fool yourself. You cant judge a tire unless you get it relatively new.

To each his own, I hope these work for ya. Remember its just my 2 cents. I am far from perfect hahahaha.

I don't have any experience with this tire in particular, but my friend has put Federal tires on a number of cars for his customers with no complaints. These aren't exactly car enthusiasts he's dealing with, but they seem to be an OK tire

Regardless, they will serve their purpose until the new ones go on. And that all I can really ask of them.

I'll show you some pics of them on the garage floor. 8-) I'm not 100% what I'm doing wit them yet. I may throw them on, I may throw them back up for sale. I have a couple of offers given to me over the past couple days. One with less aggressive tread and one with 17" rims and Goodyear MTRs. But I am leaning towards mounting these.

Sold the tires. Lost a few bucks. Lesson learned in patience on this one. They weren't bad but I think I was more concerned with getting something now than getting something good. I believe I will still be getting used, but I am looking for much better quality. Should have something mounted by next weekend.

Up in the air right now. Some guy in Wall has two airplane hangars full of tires. He told me to come up next weekend after he reorganizes so I can look through everything. He is even willing to take all of my other tires off my hands to probably end up with a straight up trade including mount/balance. I'm going up there with 16" and 17" wheels so that my options are opened up. Say he has a set of Goodyear MTRs for the 17" rims with more than 50% tread left. I've been there before and he has a lot of good rubber. I should leave with something, but I am not sure until I get to look through his inventory.
