Hey every one I'm one of the new guys here at ortb.
I have a 03 TB EXT and I'm looking to build a trail rig. It will be a slow build I'm sure.

So I have been digging around this site and I have found several wheel and tire charts, but not a lot of information on Back Spacing...

So here is what I'm looking at. And the question is what back space range should I be looking for

I will also be ordering a set of 1.5" wheel adapters.

Thanks for any help

Bear in mind, you cannot run less than a 17" wheel with your caliper setup, with minor possible exceptions. The EXT platform has larger front rotors that push the caliper mounting point out further. You should have factory 17" wheels now and you're on the right path with getting adapters, opens up a huge aftermarket selection.

Also, I'd look at factory offset or something fairly close. If you go too wide, you'll be in the fender under articulation and too narrow will put the wheel/tire in the upper ball joint.

On the stock wheels our backspace is about 6". You will need to do a test fit to see if the adapters will bring the 15" wheels out far enough to clear the calipers. The only one that I know of that have fit 15" wheels on our rigs is Hardtrailz.

With those honkin EXT calipers you'll have to run at least 16's I bet. And that sucks, because 15's are way cheaper in tires lol

stock BS is 6 inches, you need the spacer on a stock wheel to clear the upper balljoint with bigger tires...

So.. A BS of 4.5" + a 1.5"= a functional BS of 3" right?

A - 12 offset on a 9" wheel is 4.5 inches of backspacing, so adding in a 1.5" adapter puts you at 3“, I think...

That's more than enough for the ball joint, but idk if it puts you into the fender

16s w bout 4.5 bs and 1.5 adaptors barely cleared w the bigger brakes. I used a spare wheel n tire to check for Moots. Got pics somewhere I think.

I have 15's on mine. They have like a 4 in or just under a 4 in backspace and I have 1.5" adaptors. It barely clears the calipers by a hair but they work just fine. Have had no problems and have had them on about a month now I think. With 31x10.5 tires I had to cut a bunch of plastic out. And I have the 3" suspension lift.
