Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Scored two sets of rims. Which would you run?

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

I got two sets of take off rims. Both sets are in great shape. I got em for almost nothing and plan to sell the set I don't use to help pay for the tires.

One is the polished 6 star rims from a GMC Denali. 17x7.5 w/ 5.5" backspace.
The other set is from a 1500 truck 16x7 w/5.5 backspace. Simple 5 star silver.

I was thinking of running the 17s with some BFG T/A KM in 255/75 17. But they are a bit on the bling bling side.

I would run a comparable 32" tire on the 16s and do some paint work on them.

Seeing as how a lot of you have run both 16 and 17 which is better? Is there really much difference? The price of comparable tires seems to be negligable.

And yes I already have the conversion spacer/adapters and my lift kit showed up today. :excited: Its all going on over the weekend!

16's with a 32" tire give you a little more sidewall.

What I would do is run the 16's and sell the 17's to someone with a Yukon or Tahoe who does not have polished wheels....

:Iagree: I much prefer 16" wheels and as long as you don't want to run larger than 285/75/16(33in), those will be just fine.

Not sure if its an issue to you or not, but you will not be able to run the 16" with the center caps on. They thread onto the outside of the lugs, and they are different lug nuts then our vehicle uses. I had to take the plastic caps out so that I could get to the lug nuts and then glue the caps onto the rim itself.

Like I said, not sure if it matters to you, but I wanted to point it out.

Since I spend more time on road then off, i went with the 17" rim. less side wall flex means better road handling. And I have never had an issue with not enough sidewall. So my set up works for me. Good luck on finding what will make you happy.

Aren't 17" wheels called "Weenie wheels" for a reason? Without caps on the 16"s at least looks like your on a mission. :safari:

Except some of us don't have the weenie motor, and our larger breaks require 17" wheels. :raspberry:

Hey guys thanks for the input. The only reason I thought of going with the 17s is I like how Gordinho80s truck sits. That is about perfect and he has the same lift mods I have. ( Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? :thumright: ) And I also like Zeros truck and you are both on 17s.

But alas I think I am going to run the 16s as I can get more $ out of the polished 17s. They are selling for $250-350 ish locallly and I only paid $100 for both sets of rims. That would pay for my spare. I already got a plan for the centercap issue. :coffee2:

Thanks for the help guys.

Some of us with the weenie motor might even have a set of EXT caliper brackets sitting in our garage...........

Just sayin. :finger:

Some of us might actually do something with them. Instead of just letting them sit on the bench next to the dirty rags. :raspberry:

I'd go 17s if you have the chance. Most tires in this size will be taller than the 16" equivalent and seem to be more readily available (new and used)! I've been watching CL like a hawk lately and 17" tires are everywhere. Plenty of sidewall with 34 or taller, too tires.

Well after getting no replies on my ad. I am going to black chrome the polished rims and run them. If I black chrome the rims I will do the chrome grill bar to match. That should look good. :woot:
