Removing bumper for bigger tires

Hey,

I see that most people remove stock bumper when getting larger tires, but I wonder if it is necessary. I want to get a 3" suspension lift, and 1.5" spacers, so I should be able to fit 32" tires without removing the bumper, correct?

Yes, I had a 3" lift and 1.5" spacers with 32" tires and all that was needed was trimming of the plastic.

Trimming of the bumper plastic, or the inside fender?? Just wondering, did you use stock rims with 32" tire, or did you get new rims?

I didn't trim at first with the 32s, bumper got ravaged. I then trimmed before the bumper got ripped off, however, the inner fender liners suffered at full compression. When I sold the truck, there weren't any fender liners left. For what it's worth, if you take you time and measure properly, trimming the bumper will not look ridiculous. With the bigger tires on there, it will look like it's supposed to be that way.

Inside fender, stock wheels and didn't need to trim anything from the bumper, I did completely remove the inner fender liner because its useless.

I have the 3" lift with 32's and done no trimming with no rubbing.

take a stroll through the build threads and look at all the builds similar to what you are targeting that still have the bumper covers.

I'm running about 4.5" of lift with 33's and still have my bumper. It is easier for those of us that don't frequent rocks and steep inclines to keep our bumpers than those that spend a lot of time there.
I did have to trim a few inches of fender liner and massage that one support bolt by the footboard.
You'll have to see what you need to do when you get it all together, they all vary some.

Yea, your right. Thanks guys. I just think that it should either have the original bumper, or a custom one, I think it looks odd when it is taken off.

I ran 32s with the stock bumper and only the 3"lift for a good while without issues, I had to trim a small sliver, but you may not. I outline it in my build thread.

Don't mean to hijack the tread here but how big can you go with Mark's 2.5 kit and his spacers? I have 255/70R/16s on there now and those look little.
