After several hours to think about it, I build my swing arm for my spare tire of my dream.

This is fantastic! I'm trying to figure out how I want to do mine, I have most of the metal and the spindle in hand. I like the latch design, I think that'll work better than the flat pull latch that I have.

Very slick design. How is the flex when the carrier is open? and do you have anything that prevents the tire from swinging around and hitting the side of the vehicle, or hold it against gravity? After a few uses, I'm betting you'll be wanting one.

Without tire I had no flex. With tire I have 3\8" flex but it's not really a problem. And you're right I'm looking for a universel damper. At this time gravity help me but when it's windy or in a trail it's not easy to use.

Someone know which damper use? I never use this before...

Where did you get the rubber isolator at?

Marc, I used a standard automotive air extension spring (commonly used to hold up tail gates). You just have to find mounting points that work for you, find the approximate length you need, then make it happen. Mine folds up when the tail gate is closed, and acts to close the gate. Your geometry may be different based on how yours is mounted, etc.

I had a old damper from the rear glass door of my rig in my workshop so I decided to use it.
It work very well.

I like that your rod is longer than mine, mine has difficulty sometimes holding the arm open on side slopes due to the really short lever arm.
