Duratracs in 245/70-17 without spacers?

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

by bartonmd » Mon Jul 21, 2014 1:55 pm

I've searched the forum, and haven't come up with much about Duratracs in that size (245/70-17). Has anybody run Duratracs in the above size, on the stock wheels, without spacers?

Thanks,
Mike

You may already know this but you can definitely run them in the rear with no spacers. I run LT-265/70-17 which is a 31.7'' tire in the rear with no spacers. I only started to rub on the inner wheel well of the drivers side with longer shocks on full flex. You should have no rubbing due to the smaller size and (assuming) lack of a lift (axle is centered properly).

Hope this helps some

I think that size is pretty safe across most all treads.

Worst case, you can cut some hub spacer plates out of 1/4" material with the 6x5 pattern and space the tires out the minor touch that you need. Should be pretty cheap for you to do that as a backup plan.

Wallace, I'm already running the noted size in the BFG AT, but they were pretty close to the UBJ when they were new, and the Duratrac seems wider at the corner of the tread than the BFG AT does. The BFG AT is 30.6" with 8.0" tread width in that size, and the Duratrac is also a 30.6" with 8.1" tread width in LT/E (and 7.6" tread width in SL, but I'd get the LT/E).

From my build thread:

James, you're probably right... It'll probably be fine, but before I special ordered $900 in tires, I figured I'd check... In fact, I've already designed and had a couple sets punched a couple years ago, of 1/4" aluminum spacers in our tread pattern... I don't remember who I sold them to, but I do know I did them.

Well, it may come to that, and I don't have a problem with a little corner removal, but I'd rather know what's what before I have to drive home from the tire place while cutting up my brand new tires...

They do fit, and have nearly (though a little bit closer) the same amount of room as the BFG AT in the same size and load rating:

Yeah mike, I like it. Just about as close as possible without any spacers or grinding.
