Opinions on wear and gas mileage with the awd sleeve

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

by Norcrosski » Sun Apr 20, 2014 9:05 am

I have been having issues with my disconnect hear lately and I have purchased another one but has a broken shift fork. I am wondering what the amount of extra wear is in the front dif and how bad it hurts your gas mileage I drive 60 miles round trip 6 days a week

Been discussed, it's negligible. Just get the sleeve. I'm sure 20 others will chime in any moment to tell you the same thing. Yeah it's a lil more wear, and the MPG is negligible, all factors counting, get it.

I'm ordering the stuff to rebuild mine along with the AWD Sleeve. As mike said its "MPG is Negligible" so I don't know why your worried about MPG when your on 33s.....

I haven't noticed anything different....except I think the gas stations finally switched to their summer blends, my mpg's are up.

The parts in the system are made to run all the time, due to being the same as the AWD versions. It's fine.

FYI The AWD Sleeve is on back order. I ordered it(From GMpartsdirect) Monday and it was on back order. They do not know when it will get off of back order status.

Not sure where I ordered my sleeve from, I cross referenced numbers back to a hummer h3. That's how it showed up on the sales slip anyways.
Mpg's pretty much go out the window the second you lift and slam tires on the ol pig. If you want milage, grab a Vespa as a second or just don't worry about it. I noticed maybe .5 mpg drop. 15-16 winter and just about touching 18 in the summer, downhill and with the wind.
This was one of the best mods I have done, 4wd engages every time. Do all your bearings and seals at the same time, that way you never have to worry about it again.

GMpartsdirect cancelled my order today (it has been on back order for a while).

Just placed an order for one with gmpartsgiant, their price is a little higher at $84.39, but with shipping still under $100. Hopefully they really have them in stock.

It appears that they do not plan on making this part again, all of my orders are being cancelled. So far gmpartsdirect, gmpartsgiant and NalleyGMC all cancelled my orders the day after I placed them. I called gmpartscenter.net and they said this part does not appear to be in any dealer or service department in the US. I just placed an order with crateenginedepot.com and hopefully they have one.

Price is also going up, this will be $110 incl shipping, but is better than $400 for the whole disconnect....which might be the only option.

Hey Chris, long time no see. Your only other alternative may be going to a junkyard and searching out a bravada, ascender, ss, or the saab version. I beleive they all should have the part.

More than likely, GM service is bringing a manufacturer online for another run of parts, like they did with the springs, but thats just speculation.

As one of the only Ascender owners here, I can testify that they are 4wd not Awd. Looking for a sleeve to upgrade my old disconnect, my order from gmpartdirect.com was canceled also. Bought a rebuilt new one from autopatswarehouse.com ,hope it holds up. Ascenders are rebadgeded Envoys they have the NV226 T-case and same front axle disconnect as the rest of you guys.

I bit the bullet and ordered the ATP AWD 111002 Disconnect assembly from Rock Auto. $416 is painful, but I am out of time and must get it fixed.
