I just received my new pack in the mail. I have been a fan of Eberlestock for sometime and own some of the small packs they make. I decided to go all out with the Skycrane II, and can't wait to get it in the field. I will post some updates later this winter when I get out again.

That's a pretty nice looking hunting pack. How far and how long do you go off the grid? That looks like a lot of pack for hunting, at least the way I'm used to it.

Generally I head out for 3-5 days with a couple of buddy's. I rarely hunt for that long but we do a lot of camping. This past summer we decided that we needed to get further in than our fat butts could carry us so I decided to build my rig. The nice thing about this pack is that it breaks down into 3 separate smaller bags. Plus I have the tactical weapons carrier which makes it very easy to carry just about any style of hunting/tactical weapon you can get your hands on.

I like it because I can pack everything I need for 5 days and just throw it in the truck. Then when we want to get out I will be able to break it down to something more manageable. I also have the G4 Operator pack from them but it was just to much when I would only be out for a short time.

Then there is the "bugout" scenario. I have handed my other pack down to my son, so between the 2 bags we have enough space to pack for 3 days of contingency for the entire family.

I hope you leave the "contingency" bags packed and always ready to go. And you might need more than 2 bags. We take our prep seriously on this site.

We practice 3 levels of prep, short, medium and long term. The long term scenario is a "safe house" in a secluded area. The medium is preparation for our home to support the family on a 6-9 month stretch. The short term and most likely is an ever evolving 3 stage approach. You have to be ready to go from home, work or play. You may or may not be with the entire family and all members of your circle should have the proper skills and supplies at the ready to contend with as many disaster scenarios as possible. So, we have a short term plan for each vehicle and person in the family to get to a rally point or make the trip to our long term location. These bags are just the tip of the iceberg for us, but do allow for testing of items that may or may not make the final load list. The load list is based upon the effectiveness of each item in a "train as you fight" situation.

I've heard good things about maxpedition stuff. I had a friend that had one of their sling packs and it was quite well made. I've been considering one of their bags, or potentially a 5.11 bag. I tend to gravitate towards their brand too, and generally love their stuff.

The 5.11 72hr rush bags are great! I also use the Maxpedition Kodiak Gearslinger pack that I take to work everyday. Carry's my Macbook bottle and EDC gear. Great quality bag. I love all the multiple compartments inside the bag and the dividers and zippers.

This is the pack that I carried all through my active duty time. It served me well for ten years and three deployments, and I still keep it packed and ready to go. They are available used on Ebay for less then $100.

As far as sleeping bags go, the military bag I had has been the best system I have ever used. I will be picking one up for both the wife and I very soon. I have finally decided that I am tired of wasting money on the cheep Walmart bags. The green bag is temp rated at +30*, the black bag is temp rated at -10* and the two combined have a -40* rating. They can all be used individually or snapped into each other.

I hear really really good things about the milsurp modular sleep system.

And that's a pretty good price for a 2 pack.
