Completed: Adirondack Park Day Trip

As my first trip documentation, I decided to snap some photos during my day trip to the Adirondack Park. The park is a forest preserve that originally functioned as a logging tract. Now, it's a haven for Northern New York hunters and fishermen, and one of the few places around here with accessible, legal vehicle trails.

It's been quite rainy here in the North Country recently, but the trails were still rather mild with only a few mud holes requiring 4WD. I had to share the park with hunters, although fewer than usual considering the weather. As I gradually ascended deeper into the park, and subsequently higher in elevation, the rain turned to snow and started to accumulate. Made for a scenic trail ride as I winded through the trails that handrailed the Oswegatchie River and the dozens of ponds that spot the Adirondacks. I snapped few photos of the scenery, the trails, and even obligatory glamour shots of the Trailblazer in static mode.

I know a few "hidden" areas up there myself near still water reservoir. Great scenery, did you just move up here or are you just visiting?

Opeth, I've been up here for a couple of years. I'm stationed at Drum. I've been in Afghanistan for the past year, so I'm just starting to get back into Adirondack exploration. Feel free to share your 'hidden' areas, hah.

We do need to get a northern meet put together, as the TECORE events are typically just too far for a weekend trip.

If you update your profile with your location, guys like me might know what you mean by "a northern meet". So you know, we typically use the term "meet" for when we intend to get together and hang out. I have a feeling your not that kinda guy. I suspect you mean an "event" where we have an intended action. :safari:

Old Forge NY we have a Snowmobile trail system that is open to registered vehicles starting around may untill september when hunting season opens the trails vary from dirt roads to complete mudholes plenty of ponds and streams to canoe kyak and fish in aswell accessable by the trails. Also about ten miles north on rt 28 there is the town of Inlet which by the Limekiln Lake rd you can access the moose river plains wild forest wich was almost closed this year do to state funding (also accesable frome the other end in Indian Lake) where there is also tons of logging roads, trails and ponds rivers ect..

Erik, yes I meant event, not meet.

Opeth, that moose river plains region looks sweet, and only an hour and a half or so from me.....I'll definitely be making a trip down there in the next couple weekends.

Thanks for sharing!! I grew up spending summers in the Adirondacks, specifically Old Forge, Saranac, Placid, and 6th & 7th Lakes. Absolutely love the region. Even dragged my husband up there for our honeymoon, poor guy. I really miss the local maple syrup too.

I think that is one of the trails we actually did on our honey moon. Yup, we went off roading on our honey moon.
