Finally met Mike (Firefox2501) from Chantilly the other day and talked for a little while about our TB's and and trails. He kinda talked me into going to check out Peters Mill so I figured its time since I was on the edge anyways. This will be my first time out on a trail that's actually a trail so should be fun. Anyone interested in joining me? I can go pretty much any Saturday except for October 5th.

Note: This is not the same part of GWNF as TECORE and does require a pass to go on the trail.

Depending on the day, I might be down.

What's the cost associated? If I recall, peters mill requires some sort of sticker, right?

As far as I know it's a pass just like any other GWNF trail. I found on one of the links Mike posted one the report you were asking for gps corodinates $5 per rider and then 3 day passes and seasonal or something like that.

They charge you guys $$ to use public trails on public lands? :wallbash: We have recreation passes for some local national forests, but they're only needed if you stop and park to hike, or camp. BLM land (usually more of it around, but crappier) is free for everything.

I've been on 2 TECOREs in GWNF and never paid a penny.... I don't remember anyone ever buying or talking about buying a pass/sticker.

I figured it was normal. Bull Run Park is like 5 minutes from my house and that's free unless you come from out if the area or out of the state. I assumed it was something like that.

No permits required on any TECORE so far, all in GWNF.

(Taken from one of Mikes trip reports to Peters Mill)

Note that this trail does require a pass. They have 1 day, 3 day, and annual passes. Here is a list of vendors that sell the passes.

The difference seems to be OHV trails, which are closed from Jan.-March, and the Forest service roads we use. FS roads are treated like any other road unless it is damaged then they will gate it off. OHV trails are maintained for the purpose of charging a permit to access them.

Edited my original post to show it is separate from the normal TECORE spot and a pass is required.

I'm frustrated about these places that require passes... but I guess the ideology is that it's a portion of trail that requires higher than standard maintenance, and they don't want tax payers to be holding the entire bill.

I've heard that peters mill is pretty mild too. But hey, if it aligns with my schedule, I may still go. Or maybe it will inspire me to explore some other spots... who knows.

Yeah I've heard it's mild and you and Mike have pretty much the same setup. I'm just missing the 32's and skids. I remember you posting about maybe exploring this trail on one of his reports but hell I just wanna go out and get it dirty. I'd even be up for going on an exploration as long as you think 245/65's would be good enough to handle the task.

My guess is that they do this to keep the riff-raff down. There are hunters that go back there, too. So it may be a way of increasing the fine on poachers. The first time I was on the trail, there couple of guys in pickups hauling out a nuisance bear.

I could go as early as next Saturday the 6th but then you have TECORE right around the corner and I'm pretty sure the fiance has something planned the 5th of October.

JD any ideas on dates? I'm pretty flexible to whenever as long as it's a Saturday haha.

Assuming you're talking about Sept 7, maybe. I'd have to really feel it out. I've got a lot that I want to try to get done before TECORE rolls around. But don't plan this around me. Do your thing and if I can, I'll tag along.

Oh yeah you are correct with the 7th. That could work with me if you're in? Kind of a bad time to put the word out this close to TECORE I guess hahaha

JD you're off the hook. I'm not gonna be able to go this weekend. Probably wait for this after TECORE to make it easier.
