Seems the quoting code is somewhat confusing for many of our members.

I hope this will clear up some of the confusion... and if not, people should feel free to ask questions here.

  • A quote tag works like follows:
[quote="Name of person you're quoting"] Their quote goes here... [/quote]

    The above code returns this:
Name of person you're quoting wrote:Their quote goes here...

The name of the person is an optional tag. You can use the quote without it:
[quote] Their quote goes here... [/quote]

    The above code returns this:
    Their quote goes here...

  • If you wish to quote multiple people, you can quote the first person on the normal thread view page. Any subsequent quotes that you'd like to add can be added from within the "Post a reply" page. Just scroll down and you will see a small scrollable inset that shows the last 10 or so posts in the thread. Just click Image beside the post that you wish to quote.

  • What if you get the error message: "You may embed only 2 quotes within each other."
Ugh, so annoying, I know. :wallbash: However this is simple to fix while keeping the quotes intact. This is done for obvious reasons... we don't want 10 quotes by the time it gets to the 10th reply.

So, how to deal with the error?

You will be presented with something like this:

    [ quote="JamesDowning"][ quote="HARDTRAILZ"][ quote="KE7WOX"]
If you find a way to fit 44" Boggers on a TB WITHOUT a SAS, the info would be appreciated.
    [/quote]
    HMMMMM....Maybe remove the whole body...[/quote]
    TB Truggy!!![/quote]

Messy looking, but the fix is simple. The post above by KE7WOX is the offending quote (3 deep isn't acceptable). So you just need to delete his post.

So just remove the portion below in red:

    [ quote="JamesDowning"][ quote="HARDTRAILZ"][ quote="KE7WOX"]
If you find a way to fit 44" Boggers on a TB WITHOUT a SAS, the info would be appreciated.
    [/quote]

HMMMMM....Maybe remove the whole body... [/quote]
    TB Truggy!!![/quote]

And it will look like this:

    JamesDowning wrote:
HARDTRAILZ wrote:HMMMMM....Maybe remove the whole body...

    TB Truggy!!!

If you run into any problems or have any questions, please let me know. :work:

Is there any way to change the quotes to 3 or 4? Commonly it takes 3 or 4 posts of ridicule to prompt an answer. I haven't seen it go much beyond this, but 2 quotes seem pretty restrictive for proper razzing.
In all seriousness there's no need for 10 quotes, and it is generally disruptive at that level, but another quote or two added to the limit would help for tech and razzing alike.
Just a middle of the night thought.
