I went over to my buddy/ tattoo artists house the other day to get work done. When I was walking in I noticed some stickers for CORE (Cincinnati of road enthusiasts) I asked him about them and he told me they're a club that seemed somewhat similar to ours but their membership worked different... as they donate money to the website they get thing like sticker, t shirts, and forum priveledges.

Has this ever been considered? I know the extra you'd get from donations would definately help with the burdon of paying for the site. And im sure I'm not the only one to say I'd gladly donate.so here's what I thought.

$25 2 offroadtb.com stickers
$50 2 stickers and a shirt

And just go up from there. Could throw in calenders too. Opinions?

This kind of stuff splits forum members into different classes and groups, Kinda the opposite of what we aim for here in my opinion. Plus it's not really a donation if you expect something in return for it... Just my couple of shiny pennies!

The decals (whenever I can get the Paypal account verified) will have a small donation built in to their price. T-shirts are the same way, but the donation amount is very small.

I figure when we finally get enough donations built up, I'll get some ortb embroidery done on some shirts and sell them with a small donation built in.

As for gaining privileges by paying, I've always disliked that scheme because, as Rory said, it just separates people. People that donate get some badge on their profile that makes them somehow better because they pay? It's a good revenue generator, but I don't like how it manipulates members into paying.

Yea i know what you mean. My post kind of came off wrong. I didnt mean privledges to the forum... I hate that to. (ar15.com sucks for it!) But vinyls and t shirts im sure people would gladly pay for a shirt or stickers, or a package of items and have a donation attached to it to help out.

it's kind of like at school, my daughter brought home this cookie dough stuff to sell.
It is $14-16 per tub.
I can buy a similar tub from Walmart for $5.
I would rather just send the school $20 and have my wife make cookies from scratch(they are awesome).
I don't mind buying her a "school spirit" sweatshirt though which I know also includes some donation built into it.

I think James and the team here have it right with the donation process. Everyone who wants to contribute and can are able but no one feels like they have to contribute.

When we one day get the opportunity for "school spirit" Tshirts all the better :-)

Yes, but that's called a fund raiser not a donation.

I like the idea of selling stuff to help the site but don't call it donating.

Both are great but should be kept separate.
