Roadie's Birthday RTT

Discussion on how to enjoy the outdoors.

by The Roadie » Wed Mar 09, 2011 5:58 pm

Taking delivery tomorrow of a 2-year old Mombasa 9009 RTT, from a fellow ExPo member. As typical for these things, they don't lose all too much of their value, and used ones don't trade that often. So if you snooze you lose. I missed the posting all day yesterday due to work, but PM'ed the seller at 9AM and snagged it.

The state of the art was beginning to pass me by, and I was no longer the first with certain mods. I hated that.....

So since Teebes has his RTT on the trailer, I'll be the second with a RTT, but the first one on the truck. :woot:

Makes it so much easier to plan some sorts of trips where I'm not forced to set up a base camp to save time, but can do one night at a time along a line. Or a late afternoon departure for the desert when can take one overnight, but it's not worth investing an hour to set up a glamping site (yes, I know I carry way too much crap).

Are you going to use this in conjunction with your Surco or in place of?

Guess what i'm asking is will the Roadie Rack be going on sale??

Since not all of my trips will use the RTT, I have to keep the Surco for now to swap on. But I'm really liking the lines of the Baja Racks. But that would be an appearance mod and I don't (unless I'm sneaky about rationalizing it) do appearance mods. So I would have to find a structural reason why the Surco needs to be retired and that would kill its resale value.

See the corner I paint myself into by being such a hard-ass? :wallbash:

Oh, and our schedules aren't going to align until this weekend now. Sigh..... No pics today.

Oh, crap. Just lost an entire post while editing when my right SHIFT key got stuck down and I didn't notice it, and everything I typed or tried to command went awry.

Don't feel like retyping right now. Will update tomorrow.

Short form. RTT is here, not mounted. Can't open it without being mounted. Redoing entire roof rack system with Thomas & Betts Superstrut. Waiting for paint to dry overnight on new vehicle side rails. Seller of the RTT also mentioned he had a brand new awning he also wanted to sell, and would I want a CampingLab awning for $100. Heck YEAH! So now I have to mount an awning as well. Sigh.. More work.... :excited:
