Custom roof rack and RTT help

Shit. They only sold one type of tent when I bought mine... that annex is cool, but my tent is so old it doesn't even have the zippers shown to attach it.

I used the stock rails, thule cross bars with some short sections of aluminum square tube parallel to the truck rails. Held on with carriage bolts.

Well after 20 holes in the roof I have my Rhino Rack Tracks and Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform installed. It's not 100% mounted(still waiting for spacers and shims) but you guys get the idea. Wish I would have gone with one size longer but not bad for free as it's a demo through work.

Still have all my lights to install as well.

-50" bar for roof
-30" bar for push bar
-Rigid SAE going in factory fog holes
-Rigid Ignites going in rear bumper for reverse lights

That's a good looking rack. Though a bit more elevated than I expected considering the really low profile mounting bars.

Yeah it's a little higher than I was expecting but our roofs have a decent bow to them so it makes the ends look like they are sticking way up. I'll measure the height once I get the spacers and shims in.

Well I got good news and bad news. Good news is that I got my tent mounted but bad news is that I wasn't able to get it fully popped up and any pictures before it started to downpour here. Looking like it's a quick storm so should be able to get pics tomorrow or Tuesday! So pumped for summer this year!

Ready or not here she is! The Smittybilt RTT 2783 on top of the Rhino Rack Pioneer. I do have to say it looks mighty fine and the tent feels built really well and made of great material. Excited to get her on the trails and on top of some mountains!


Next on the to-do list for this week/weekend is my Trigger 6-Shooter and all my lights(at least get them all mounted, ha)

With yours sitting a bit higher than I expected, hows the wind noise from it?
I wish I had some roof rack in front of my tent like that so I could easily build a wind dam and put my axe/shovel behind it.
You planing on leaving it up there full time or take it off when not in use?

Wind noise is not bad at all. They do make lower profile legs but these are the quick connect ones so I can take the whole rack off in about 30 seconds if I want to. Also the rack will probably always live on top but I will keep the tent on for the summer and pull it in the winter.

Sadly I was talking about my rack itself. If I want to take just the tent off its those stupid track bolts and plates, but if I was to take my whole setup off all at once it will take like 30 seconds. Each foot has a lock plate. Take them off and there is quick release tabs and its free.

But still it only takes me about 5 minutes to get my tent off the rack.

One quick question. Where is a good spot to mount a hi-lift? The extra rack space is for recovery boards and don't want to pay a ridiculous amount for a swing spare tire carrier w/ hi-lift mount. I was thinking of mounting straight to the lift gate horizontally??? Not sure though.
