Baja/pre runner front bumper

Hey guys? Just out of curiosity... Has anyone built a "light weight" front bumper like on a pre-runner or trophy truck? I've seen a them on older vehicles and a few on newer trucks but I've never seen a tb or envoy with one. I tried searching the site and turned up nothing.

This might be a project in the future if no one has done it yet. I'd be interested to see what they look like.

Upon further research on a dead forum and this one...I'm thinking that just a bull/safari bar would be more cost effective and practical for some extra lighting...any know how durable those are? I see a lot of people have them here but as far as the mounting and strength of the bull bar, what's the stats? Does it differ between manufacturers? If anyone could point me in the right direction for these answers I would greatly appreciate it. I've tried the search option here but it just says nothing matches.

All of the brush guards and bull bars currently made for our platform are damage multipliers. They all mount to the radiator mounts, and when hit, they'll push the radiator back into the fan.

There have been various custom bumpers created by some of our members. About the closest to what you're showing was probably Teebes' jeep bumper that he adapted.

I'm glad I asked, I might just fab something up. I would like a skid, some extra lighting, but keep the bumper either in one piece or just take it off. But I don't want to have the ugly no bumper void if that makes sense. I would build/buy a steel bumper, but it's just a 2wd and I honestly don't need it. I do like to take it on some trails that aren't too rugged, but I can go most places where I am as long as there isn't any real rock climbing. But anyway...I would like to have something that will protect my front end components...but not weigh down the front too much...if this is even possible while not cutting up the front end...idk

Teebe's jk bumper looks good, pretty much what I'm wanting. But I'm worried about weight...

Based on what you said, I would get Barton's radiator and oil pan skid plates. Then cut your bumper plastic about halfway up the bumper. The border patrol Tahoes do this and it looks good. If you then require lighting, that can be accomplished with a fairly simple custom bracket that ties in between your bumper and grille.

Yeah I'm familiar with the border patrol set up, used to see those guys every day when I lived in Tucson. I think I might just fab up some skid plates or look into bartons

My push bar mounts right to the frame.. So not really a damage multiplayer (if the crash breaks the frame with the push bar it would destroy the car without it anyway) and it is very strong.. About 70-80lbs total and keeps the bumper intact. I go off roaring all the time and have not run into any clearance issues so far. Maybe an option if you want to keep the stock bumper intact and on

I do t want to make a ton of drastic changes that would be perminant.

I'm not a fan of the brush guards on these trucks, but I do like the Westin Safari bar...just wish it was taller...maybe I could alter it.

those are the ones warned about above. they mount to your radiator mount, and lower your approach anlge.

Hmm. The install vid on YouTube shows it being mounted in place of the tow hooks on a Silverado.

Guess I'll just have to make my own then, or buy a brush guard with out the headlight bars...those are ugly as hell imo.

On our platform, everything like that made for us mounts to the radiator mounts.

they look okay on the older trucks where everything is strait lines, but the new ones remind me of like whiskers or something idk...just don't like em. I do like the guard that TrailX had before the full steel bumper. It looked good on the tb, not sure how it would work on an envoy. I did, however, see a light mount that mounted above the bumper on the off road Expidition Rated Build thread, first topic. Looked pretty good actually and utilized the front bumper, looks like with out cutting it up. From there I can make or buy some skid plates and be good to go. I need to get my lift and spacers first.

Just an FYI, I have Mike's bumper, and it isn't really heavy.

I mean, I haven't weighed it, but I put it on and take it off by myself with no great struggle or anything. I also wanted a tube type bumper for weight, but when I really thought about the cost and time involved, it was a great deal to just buy a prebent one from Mike.
