You have to be there first Matt.

I didn't take many pictures, but here's one with bacon and I playing tug of war over my hammock. I have only a couple others on the other cameras.

I'll do my best to cook up a halfway decent video in the coming weeks. Thanks again guys. Hope to see you all again in a few more months.

Bad news guys. Bacon's stuck at the SC / GA state line with a blown transmission. From what he told me, it sounds like a check ball passed through the separator plate, but I can't be sure. I'm not sure what his status is exactly. He sounded like he wanted to attempt to fix it himself. It won't be easy to get parts unless he can find a junkyard that will let him tear down a transmission. Alternative #2 is a 300 some mile tow, and alternative #3 is driving in 2nd gear all the way home. #3 doesn't sound too bad to me.

Maybe it was good we had to bail. At that rate, my rig might've simply imploded lol. Sorry to hear you guys are having issues. We saw Bacon for about 5 seconds as we passed him on 81. We also ran hot on the way up and back, tapping 240 for a moment. We blew the radiator out best we could at the car wash right before meeting you guys Friday, but no improvement. Wish we could've been around to help some of you.

Here is the only picture we got.

I'd probably try driving it in 2nd gear, it's not a bad fix at home with the parts, but it would be real interesting doing a valve body on the side of the road or in a parking lot.

Worse case, at least the tow home is cheaper, he should make it a good ways, if not all the way in 2nd.

Was the person who got the big air the one who got the alignment knocked out?

I'll just use small snippets here and there Rory. Feel free to post up your own amalgamation. Some people like to watch the unedited stuff anyways.

Also - great shots! You must have taken more, right?

I took way more but mostly same stuff at less photogenic angles, might have a few more to post I just have to look through them better. I'll mess with the video when I get the chance.

Yup. I made it. That was the most brutal drive ever... Set out at 11:30 am, made it home around 7:30 am. 350 miles w/o going over 45 mph. Setting cruise in 2nd gear and 3400 rpms made for a lovely droning noise for 5.5 hours... also, 45mph on I95 is a real treat. I had the xmsn rebuilt less than 3 years ago and I thought it had a 3 year warranty. When i got home (and some sleep) I found the paper work and discovered the warranty was only for 2 years. Shit.
I dropped it off at the same shop today. They've done 3 of our other cars and I trust them. We'll see what comes of it.

I'm uploading 200+ pics to a photobucket folder and I'll share the link as soon as it's done.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures!

And despite the damage to my rig, it was still a hell of a lot better than going into the office. Deciding to leave early was a tough decision, but judging from how the truck handled on the way home, it was probably the right call.

For those of you who don't know, here is my list of damage:
CB Antenna mount: Broken - antenna temporarily mounted to my Hi-Lift
Sun roof control mechanism: Broken - the sun roof is closed and not leaking, so this is low priority
Truck storage drawers: Broken - ripped to shreds thanks to that wonderful thing called inertia!
Windshield: Leaking around the bottom edge while at highway speeds - probably just a bad seal since there are no cracks in the glass
Front Alignment: Schwacked; field alignment performed to make it good enough to drive (thanks for everyone's help, but especially Dave!). Got a proper alignment this morning - no further damage and the tires are still good to go.

No major damage - certainly not nearly as bad as Bacon's tranny - but still annoying enough to sap a lot of the fun for me.

But it makes for a fun TODO list of things to fix before I go out there again! And it was great to see everyone!

Out of curiosity - which trails did you guys do on the Long Run / Second Mt / Dictum side?

Did you try out Gauley Ridge?
