Mark's 2.5" vs 3" lift

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by 419TrailWisperer » Wed Dec 03, 2014 6:26 pm

I keep going back a forth about Mark's 3" or 2.5" lift. I'll be wheeling once or twice a month, and a decent amount of outdoor stuff. Camping, shooting, beach trips etc. You guys think I can fit 32"s with the 2.5" lift? Or is the extra 1/2" worth it? I wanna do a bumper down the road. I'm on the fence, and being indecisive, let me know what you think

You'll be fine with 2.5" of lift and 32s.

Can the 3 in safely accommodate heavier springs to satisfy the steel bumper requirement?

I know even 2in lifts have been known to blow up a shock.

I didn't even think about the shocks, I was more worried about binding. I guess a quick fix for that would be 85-87 springs, or just add more steel up front.

More steel doesn't fix the issue of the heavy springs blowing out the shock end-gland when your suspension unloads. I brought this up because a 3" block should conceivably unload more often/harder than a 2.5" block, given the same spring and extension length.

Yes, a weaker spring could potentially fix it. I don't have much knowledge of what is ok though. Maybe guys have ran 89s with the 3" block hard without issue. I've just seen what 89s and (i think) 2.5" blocks can do when paired.

I beat on 88s w 3 inch spacer without issue. I think the 89 are decent bit rougher/tougher from reports though.

Cool, works for me. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't getting into a potentially problematic situation.

I'm not going to do a bumper til mid 2015, once I can pick up another DD. I'll shoot for the 2.5 for now. I can always pick up the 3" lift later. Luckley I work at a dealer, so if I break anything, I've got access to lifts and knowledge. Thanks for the help guys

Ask Mr. Roadie if dealer and knowledge can be associated on this site...

:Iagree: Haha, yeah I know. We're a small dealer though, maybe 40 people work here. Haven't seen any funny business... Yet... I do get GM parts at cost, my PSpump was $130ish. Roadie if you ever find yourself in Raleigh, let me try to change your mind about dealerships.

I'm also in the same predicament is there any true benefits of the 3" besides an extra 1/3" of lift?

Why do you think it is a 1/3 inch. My experience with the first install of the 3 gave more benefit than that and is documented on here from when Mark developed it.

Otherwise the benefit is stated all over the place that it removed the stock weak mount that many of us have broken over the years.

I'm a bit lost as to how some people blow bushings on seemingly innocuous setups and some people beat them without mercy with no issue lol. I'd love to not spend 1100 on Radflos

I had one set fail with the 2.5 and it was highly annoying at Tecore the one year. Squeaks that drove me nuts. Had no issue on 3 inch.

It is amazing how some people just seem to have poor luck and others have good with same setup or tires or whatever.

i broke a strut with the 2.5" but i think light springs, steel bumper and abuse contributed a bit. and it looks like a defect in the strut where it broke too..
