Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

What did you do to your GMT today?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

Found that the disconnect actuator is junk, won't work under pressure and binds. I managed to get it to lock in long enough to get to the garage and tear it apart. After all the troubleshooting, we decided to throw in a 3/8" nut inside the disco and bolt the actuator back on to lock it in all the time. It's not ideal, but I don't have time to wait on a new one at the moment due to our weather. For now, I'll have to live with the 4WD Maint dash light.

We measured the extended length of the actuator and it came out to exactly 1/2" retracted vs open. However, when we found an item to match the needed length the actuator wouldn't seat completely. 3/8" ended up being our magic number and we found a nut to match the size. I'm sure others have done this before, but just a quick bit if someone needs it for a bind.

Yep, I did that for a couple of years. It's been dubbed the "poor mans" awd sleeve.

I started pulling the front lift off today... I think I figure out why my 4x4 wasn't working. I disconnect the upper control arm from the Upper BJ and when I let it down my cv shaft just came right out no effort required. I pushed it back in and now I cant pull it out. So I wonder if it worked its way out?

Designed mounts for my lights yesterday. Finished up printing them today and installed them. Just need to run the little bit of wiring and then adjust them.

Since the last TECORE, I've been meaning to relocate my CB antenna because Yoda said it's likely to explode or something...
So I used a left over piece of superstrut and bolted it up to the roof rail so it sticks out the back left corner of the RTT. I angled the bar also so it wont snag on trees. It flexes a good bit, but has yet to loosen. I have the 4ft antenna on it, but I keep the 2' one in the back just in case the brush gets too heavy.

LOL not exactly the words I used. However you should get much better reception with more of the antenna above the roof. How's the SWR.

I actually have my 3' attached to my rear bumper cover and grounded to the frame behind the tail light. Our trails are tight and low enough that I can't mount it higher without breaking or damaging it, even with the spring. My SWR is perfect, but my range isn't far. :(

Heard some squeaking coming form the front, and found the fan all over the place... time to replace the water pump.

Likely assembly error. C clips don't normally work themselves out. They are used on nearly every fwd car.

How in the world did you break them off in the block? Mine came out real easy.

Mike, an SWR meter makes a big big difference. Just screwing the tip of the firestick in and out a half inch made a huge difference in the ability to transmit and receive... Big big difference. Most of us at tecore had a hard time understanding you here and there. Spend the money and time, I like hearing your smart ass comments lol

Your mount gave me an idea. I made one in Inventor that I could print for you if you'd like to give it a try. Could have it print this afternoon and send it out to you after this weekend. It's slanted back at the antenna mounting point. I would just need to know the offset distance to clear the RTT tho. Here is an initial rendering. It'd be printed in black.

I'm assuming it'd mount to the roof rails where mine is? I'd be concerned for plastic mount holding up with the twisting because of the leverage against it. Also, the offset will have to be rather large to clear the RTT. We're talking 5-6 inches

Ah yeah, that would be too much of a lever against it. I know I've not had any issues with the mounts that I've made for my lightbar to the roof rails but I couldn't tell how far out that had to stick to clear. The twisting would be the weak point. I know I looked at running simulations upwards of 75-100lbs but that was with only a 3" standout.
