Completed: Vermont Overland Rally 10/2014

For the last 4 years the folks at Vermont Overland host the Vermont Overland Rally and Workshop. It focuses on the diversity and "localvore" in Vermont. Its a 4 day event that has gone from under 100 participants to almost 250 vehicles. We have anything from bone stock pickups pulling campers to fully built Unimogs that show up. This event is almost worth it just to drool over some of the vehicles that show up.
This year they managed to outdo themselves again. They added 2 more trails to the list, but still were lacking a real challenge. The group of guys I normally wheel with participated in the Vermont Overland Trophy (their version of the Camel Trophy) and still had their maps with them. So we pealed off from the rest of the group and went looking for some challenges. We wheeled 2 days, unfortunately the second day resulted in my rear axle giving up after having to pull a broken Rover through a challenge section after his 4wd and winch failed him.

Thanks. I try to post on here the link to it on ExPo when it come up. It would be great to have more of a presence at some of these big meets. Im stoked about having a few rigs at the Moose on the Loose trip.

glad you had fun, I remember seeing you there a couple of years ago

not to berate anyone but I felt that $175 for the weekend to do the same stuff i could do in my own backyard was a bit too much

I can see the $175 for ORW. Camping for three nights, a meal, vendors, plus the little odds and ends. Would I (and everyone else whos been there more than once) like different trails? Absolutely.

But there is a reason why I am not doing VOT. The first year I feel confident in myself and my rig to run it, the price went from almost $500 to almost $900?!?!?!

what really urkes me if you look at some of the event photos they are going on closed class IV roads which is going to ruin it for the rest of us in the state

Im not aware of any VOT trails that are on closed class IV roads. All of the ones Ive been on, and part of Peters whole thing, is to use roads that are all open to the public. Im sure there has been a wrong turn made here or there (we have all done it). Im going to look into it and I will get back to you on that though.
