I can't have a turn down under the vehicle in my state. It wouldn't pass emissions. I'd like to hear a sound clip though.

IMHO even if you could have a turned down tip I really don't think it is safe. At idle you could get exhaust in the cabin.

You could have a tree fall on your truck as well.

I had no issue w my exhaust coming in the cab with it cut off. Regulator has had his cut for years and no exhaust in the cab... If you want actual experience

I had mine terminate aft of the rear axle for years. I never understood the exact reasons for requiring termination beyond the body.

It was explained to me that terminating the exhaust under the vehicle was not acceptable per the state inspection due to the potential case of snow to accumulating around your vehicle - in which case you could be pumping exhaust fumes through whatever holes are in your cabin. Seems weak to me, but I guess it makes some sense.

I slept in my truck w it running w it running hacked off exhaust. Never had a worry.

If I had an old rust bucket I sure wouldn't want exhaust dumping where it could seep up through holes.

Laws have to pertain to every POS on the road. I've driven many trucks (3 this week) that should never dump exhaust under the vehicle. They don't have catalytic converters and pump a ton of emissions. So those of is with inspections are likely to be forced to have it dump outside the body.

Exhaust setups like that do have a legitimate issue with exhaust coming into the cabin with cars. Even sitting at stoplights enough fumes would come in the cabin to be noticeable, and on a couple occasions make your eyes water. I've experinced it in a couple firebirds, a camaro, a chevelle, and a nova. Most guys just dealt with it since it was more of a nuisance than a hazard... I remember even some of the first gen viper guys complaining about it with the side exit exhaust.
Now maybe the extra airspace under a lifted truck helps significantly and that's why we haven't seen any issues. But I could see it being an issue in the right circumstances. Of course we're all adults and can make our own decisions. Lord knows I've done plenty of things that others find unsafe! LOL

I had my 85 Z28 dump right behind axle. Was ridiculously loud but did not bring fumes in. Even with the windows down it had the exhaust exit 3 feet behind the doors w its flow pushing it back not up toward the doors.

Man I miss that car!
